On Macs, they have some kind of font manager. Such that you have to "turn on" the font. I think it's something like Extensis Suitcase or the such. It's been a while since I used a Mac though, but I remember some things from using them at school a few years back.

On a PC, as long as that font is in the Fonts directory and is of a type supported by the software - it should work. (Although in a few cases, it may also need a reboot first.)

I guess part of that is that Macs have a longer history with publishing for the most part. So if you had a huge font library, controlling what fonts are loaded makes sense. (Imagine starting PhotoShop or InDesign if you had over 1000 Fonts that loaded.) So by using a font manager it is possible to turn on and off customized groups of fonts in addition to individual fonts. (As where on a PC if you get too many fonts, you have to poke around more and move things to and from storage folders manually.)
