I sketched out the vt definitions for each face of the 'fixed' cube and I think that I see  a  'clockwise' winding order for each face, including where faces have shared vt entries. I could be confused though as its difficult to visualise a 2d map into 3d, then back onto a sheet of paper .

The 'bad' cube has no recognisable winding order that I can see for the vt's. In case anyone is supicious the 'bad' cube is a exported from a UV program and I did not deliberately break it, other than box mapping to generate artefacts.
