Something else I thought of to try.
Re-export the object from Wings and make sure that the boxes labelled 'One group per material' and 'Export normals/smoothing groups' are checked in the export dialogue. I don't know if that will do anything; but it is worth a try.

Friends don't let friends use booleans.
