The little bright line at the edge of where the hat touches the mesh is a problem of using depth mapped shadows called a "light gap". You can minimize it as Bill suggests by lowering the shadow bias and increasing shadow map resolution, maybe even to the point where you won't notice it any more, but it's fundamental to depthmapped shadows and it's just something you have to take into account when composing a scene and rendering.
