You would be referring to Kevin Mitnick who was part hacker part 'social engineer' - which really separates the men from the boys in that world. :)  It takes more scammer to be the latter, one supposes.
Obviously noone is listening to him about avoiding hacking and social engineering.  There is going to be a piece on internet scams tonight on Dateline - this is the Nigerian scam moved to the neighboring country to avoid the associated stigma.
