jon, one of thier staff posted in a blog for us linux advocates to put up or shut up basically, to submit articles for publication on linux in order for the site to have more content, not just complain about a lack of content. I sent him an email detailing a list of 6 subjects that are focussed on people who have never looked at linux and he said yes, they would definately be interested in them. in the discussion attached to the article, as well as with a few other discusions, the second series I was thinking about has been requested. articles on specific applications, installing, configuring and using them. [ an example being ethereal, a network traffic monitoring tool ] the rest of the original series: 1) basic configuration for desktop use, as well as server use. 2) installing software from sources, or from a package manager package. 3) securing the system from hacking attempts. 4) managing user accounts 5) scheduling automatic tasks. the second series covers over 15000 different programs. a third series would be reviewingeach of the over 300 linux distributions, from installation to configuration, with the show stopper points detailed. [ in example, my computer will not boot the SuSe distribution, the scsi module thier kernel uses locks my computer up. with Sun's Solaris, thier usb-uhci module locks my system up, yet every other linux has no problems with the usb-uhci module. ] the show stoppers make picking a distribution more of a challenge. dialyn, Linux is an operating system, lynx is a text only web browser. :) [ no pictures, no frameset support, poor table support, no flash plugin ] the basic text only makes lynx, and it's clone text only browser very fast with most sites. the drawback is poor site design with most sites, even here, for the text only option.
