personally, I agree with dex in the last thread, and I'll use N86's 'Bryce Forum' reference as an example why, though you can substitute Poser, Lightwave, etc. It was stated that there is no Bryce 1, Bryce 2, etc. forum... Of course not, they still carry the name Bryce. Anyone with an older copy of Bryce can still go in the Bryce forum and get helpful advice. Sure there will be those whose first advice will be to upgrade. There always will be those guys around in every forum. But there will also be long-time users who will gladly share their 'old' knowledge with new users. So, say someone picks up a copy of RDS 5.5 and wants to learn. It's still a functioning, usable program. Where will they go for help? I'm not saying it will happen very often, or even at all, but if/when it does... that person will see RayDream/RDS attached to this forum (and others, 3DCommune, for example)... and they will find here those people whose first advice will be to upgrade/get a new program (which is not always an option, no matter what they think), and they will also find some long-time users who will gladly wax nostalgic about an old program/friend and share their knowledge. It is the fault of no one in this forum, that I know of, that RayDream 6 became Carrara 1... and there's no logical reason to abandon support for the older program, simply because of a name change.
