That's a difficult question to answer without getting into a formal benchmark of both rendering engines. That is, we would have to create the exact same scenes in both softwares, with gradual increase in complexity, and compare the results both in rendering time and visual quality. Are you looking at scenes of equivalent complexity ? In my experience, I noticed that I tend to make more simple scenes in Carrara than in Vue because I am not used at Carrara's weird interface (at least not yet), so the rendering time is faster with Carrara but for the wrong reason. As for Vue 5, we are not at liberty to discuss the beta version until after the release :)
