I duplicate the body layer(for safety and versatality), and then use the dodge tool with variant setting to remove some of the color but still being able to keep the detail. I have also used the lasso mask and then adjusted the brightness up a little, but then you have use the healing brush on the edges and that is a difficult tool to master.
