Changes to Product Bundling

Renderosity increases flexibility in purchasing Product Bundles

There is no doubt that many of you have seen the great value in purchasing one or more of the vendor created bundles in the Renderosity MarketPlace. What happens, however, when you have previously purchased one or two products that are included in a bundle and the overall savings still may justify the purchase? The answer in the past has been that you will not be able to buy that bundle.

It's been a policy of Renderosity's to not allow for duplicate purchases in order to better protect our loyal customers. However, in the case of Product Bundles, we felt as though we needed to allow for greater flexibility.

From now on, anyone has the ability to purchase a bundle regardless of their purchase history. It will be up to the buyer to identify whether or not they've previously purchased any or all items included in that particular bundle. In many cases you may find that it is cost effective to purchase an entire bundle to take advantage of dramatic cost savings even though a product has been previously purchased.

It is our hope that this will help increase buyer satisfaction and promote vendor participation in creating more bundles that are available to a now larger group of eligible buyers.

As a point of clarification, our system will only allow for the purchase of duplicate product(s) within the product bundling area. If a buyer purchases a product from the 'What's Hot' area (for instance) our system will still continue to check your account for a previous purchase of that item.

*Please know that the Renderosity MarketPlace will not be refunding previous purchases in which the sole reason of the refund is to take advantage of this change. No alterations have been made to the Refund Policy as a result of this change.

i would prefer if i could select the behavior individually for my account i for one prefer the old way where the site automatically checks if i have a product already i've got quite a few items already and always checking myself makes the buying process far more difficult maybe a page where you say "you've got product x in the bundle y already ... do you still want the bundle added to the cart ?" and then i can click yes or no

I'd echo that - a warning of the duplication would be nice.

I agree, I can't remember every single purchase I've ever made. I rely on the system to tell me if I'm going to buy something I've already got. All it needs is a simple "Did you know you've already purchased XYZ before?" and a box to click OK. No need to allow or forbid anything, just an advisory box is sufficient.

I also agree, a warning is very necessary. I won't buy any bundles without this policy. I haven't bought any bundles yet. I have seen sale prices cheaper than bundle prices.

I find it cheaper to buy individual items when they are on sale and use a coupon that is good on sale items. It works out far cheaper than a bundle price because coupons can't be applied to bundles.

Ditto on that. Warning plus option to continue would be best. And while you're at it, figure out a way to exclude the grab bag type items (pot of gold, etc.) from the warning.

I agree as well... Coming from both a customer and vendor, I think the prompt to say 'you've purchased X item in said bundle... add anyway?' is a very good idea. :-)

I think the same. The old way of checking automatically, was something, which I always liked very much. It saved me from buying something twice - especially in a bigger bundle, where I have perhaps no overview. Depending from the length of the list of already purchased items that's a clear advantage !

I agree the warning is best for me. The only reason I haven't bought bundles is because I usually have one of the items. I find it better to purchase individually. Guess I won't even be considering bundles at all now if this is the way it is going to be.

Please keep the warning of a previously bought product "NO MATTER WHAT ELSE Transpires". I do not buy bundles because they are excluded from coupon purchases AND I only buy an item when on on special anyway!

You know you could make bundling products more flexible. Products available to be bundled could be marked with an icon (B) underneath (such as your currently doing $, R, C). The buyer can choose any of the products marked (B) available to be bundled. This way the buyer can also avoid buying a product in a bundle that they already have. The bundled products could have a starting discount for example 30% for minimum two products. Then the discount increases say 2% for each additional product (B) added to the bundle until a maximum discount is reached for example 40%. Each bundle must be specific for that vendor (no mixing different vendor products in the bundle). The vendor can set the starting discount, the scale for adding products to the bundle, and the maximum discount. Of course Rendo will have a nice headache of recoding the Marketplace and Cart to account for tagging items for this more flexible bundle system. Have fun ;-)

yeah warning plus option to continue would be best. a lot of customers have huge runtimes i for example have over 350 gigs and i am getting old heheheh, sometimes i dont remember what i have although i customized my runtime. just a little warning "you have product xxx already are you sure you want to continue... etc.

I agree with what everyone else said. It seems finally we all agree on something - isn't that scary?

douglasbushong ( posted at 4:17AM Tue, 13 December 2011

Of course, I agree with everyone else about the warning. Whatever mechanism you used to forbid the transaction before should be used to provide a warning about the transaction now.

I agree too - LBAMagic's idea sounds good, but if even a simple thing as a warning for duplicates in a bundle is a problem, I doubt it will be implemented... ;-)

Without a warning I will avoid bundles, just in case. I also agree that I have never found one to be a bargain compared to being able to use coupons on things. Plus many now include Prime items which means they are not such a saving.

I agree that the lack of any kind of warning is not helpful. I also would like to repeat the proposal I made in the Forums a long time ago for owners of one or more items in a bundle to be able to get the additional items at the bundle price without having to buy the whole bundle and thus duplicate purchases. Like many others, I have never bought any of the bundles on Renderosity because I almost always have at least one of the items already, and in that case there is no saving to be made in purchasing the whole bundle, especially as sale coupons do not apply. Personally, I think you need to consult with your customers and do a complete re-think of your whole approach to bundles, which is already badly flawed and will be made worse by this new change.

well you could go into account, items the look up venders name, it'll show you a list of all their items you have :) I also forget what and when I've purchased stuff so that little action helps to see when i got said item :D

I need the warning as well please.

In the recent past, if I have had a customer buy a bundle or even 4 or 5 products at one time from my store-I have offered to create a bundle for them. I just thank them for their purchase and explain that if they ever have a combination of products they would like to purchase from my store, I'd be happy to make up a bundle especially for them which only takes about 24 hours to show up online. I have sold several bundles that I probably would not have put together myself that way. :) I ask them to write my mailbox here and then I verify their request with them. It only takes a minute.

I want a warning that I already have part of a bundle! I won't be buying bundles if this stays. I want the option to say yes or no Thanks
