Have you ever fancied becoming a world record breaker? Do you enjoy helping others? Well here’s your chance! Renderosity has joined forces with a global art alliance to try to create the world’s largest ever artistic collaboration.

Five international charities have come together to produce a record breaking piece of global art that will represent all people from around the world, and have enlisted the help of the Renderosity community to help them reach their goal.

So what’s it all about?

How can you create a true snapshot of our global society, and sum up its diversity in one single picture? Simple. Get together one million people from all around the world, and get them to work on the picture together in the world's largest ever artistic collaboration - a collaboration where everyone is equal, where all outcomes are valid. Nobody knows what will happen when one million people create a single work of art because nothing like it has ever been tried. Will the result be a crazy patchwork of individual images? Will some larger picture emerge from the chaos? Let's find out!

How it works

We are looking for as many Renderosity members as possible to join the project and create a small square image, using the online drawing tools provided. Your image will be just one of one million images that will make up the entire picture - The One Million Masterpiece.

You need to create your image online, but what you choose to draw is completely up to you. You can choose to make your picture fit in with the surrounding pieces or make it stand out by using a preview feature that shows your image with the context of your neighbors. You can change your image at any time if you don't feel happy with it, and you can exchange messages with your fellow artists using our community pages.

The complete picture is set to be printed and unveiled on World Population Day 2007 as a symbol of global unity.

The first step to achieving this goal is to smash the current world record of 25,297 contributors to a single artwork. We think that with the help of the Renderosity community we can hit that target by Christmas – so get on over there and make your mark! We’ll be reporting on how many of our members have become record breakers very soon!

Joining The One Million Masterpiece is free. Log-on to www.theonemillionmasterpiece.com and follow the simple instructions.

Anyone wishing to make a donation to the international charities can do so securely through the site. But, you can participate with, or without making a monetary donation. The donation of your time and creativity will help to raise awareness and focus attention to this project and these charities.

Renderosity is very excited to be able to offer this dynamic opportunity for all of us to be able to reach out and help others regardless of whether we have money or not. As artists, we can all contribute to these worthy causes by simply making an artistic statement. Those that would like to contribute monetarily may do so knowing the charities being supported are well respected and long established organizations.

We know that our members have big hearts and generous souls. Many have expressed a desire to do something to help others. Since Renderosity is a private business and we are not set up as a charity, we encourage our members to participate in this event that can help so many in such a beautiful way.

As I write this, the site is back up (kept getting timeout errors yesterday though), and I've joined up. Come on, people, how are we supposed to know how many 'Rosity members are part of this if we don't reply here. Anyway, here's my pic so far. I'm still playing with the tools right now, but the pic will update as I work on it. :-) 54.jpg

I joined as well, what a great idea. After browsing the rest of the artwork up, I wish I'd spent more than 5 minutes on mine. There is some great talent displayed there with such primitive tools. I'm most definitely spoiled with Photoshop. :) But it says what I wanted it to say. :) 20.jpganim01.gif

Hi everybody, We just wanted to say "Thank you" to everyone that has donated an image to the "One Million Materpiece" charity art project. In just 14 days 668 Renderosity members have joined the One Million Masterpiece, totalling 7% of the overall picture so far. This is great, especially considering the very short time we've had. We know that our members have big hearts and generous souls. Many have expressed a desire to do something to help others, especially during the holiday season. Please encourage everyone you know to create a small piece of art that will bring attention and focus on several well respected charities. We hope to see an even bigger Renderosity presence in this record breaking collaboration.
