Renderosity has chosen BlueBrainFX, as our April Rising Star! and he has an impressive story to tell.
He was born in Manila, but now in his middle years, finds himself living in Utah.
“As a young person, I was deeply fascinated by the movies that shaped my generation—classics like Star Wars, Back to the Future, Jurassic Park, and more. The special effects in those films left a lasting impression on me, sparking my curiosity about how they were created,” he said.
That passion took him to the Autodesk Learning Center to study CGI and 3D animation.
“Over the years, my career has evolved, with major projects and clients from around the globe helping to hone my skills. It’s been an incredible journey, and the work I do today continues to be both a source of fulfillment and a livelihood,” he said.
We asked him about his development as an artist and growth of his career.
Q&A with BlueBrainFX
What are the programs you first used while learning to create 3D graphics, and what are your favorite programs or tools now for work?
My first CGI tool was 3ds Max, and since then, I’ve worked with several others, including Lightwave3D, Maya, and Modo. Today, Blender has become my go-to software—it's incredibly versatile and reliable for most of the projects I work on.
How did you transition your interest in digital art to production of commercial works?
I’ve been working in the CGI industry for over two decades, and throughout that time, I’ve gained valuable insights that helped me recognize the potential of marketing my own creations as a source of passive income. It turned out to be a rewarding venture. I started with TurboSquid and later expanded to other marketplaces, further growing my reach and success.
What are your favorite projects to create and what has been the most successful for you?
Throughout my career, I’ve worked in product design, advertising, 3D modeling, and animation. However, my true passion has always been in building sets, particularly for games and architectural visualizations. I’ve always been drawn to a touch of sci-fi, inspired by the early CGI seen in the iconic films I grew up watching.
Are there other artists that influence your work or have mentored you?
I’ve never been motivated by any specific artist; instead, I’ve always been self-inspired. My creations are driven by passion and imagination. I believe that a true artist grows from within—self-creativity is your own mentor.
What motivated you to become a vendor?
My decision to become a vendor came through a referral from an old colleague, who at the time was the creative head at TurboSquid and later at Daz3D. He showed me the potential of generating income by utilizing my spare time and artwork—rather than letting it sit unused on my hard drive. By sharing it, I could give it exposure, and in turn, it would be appreciated by people who are willing to acquire it and be inspired.
How did you make the decision to become a vendor at Renderosity?
Being a vendor in popular marketplaces has been a valuable experience, but over the years, it's become clear that while the market continues to grow, the competition has also become fiercer. I first discovered Renderosity early in my career when it was still relatively new. At the time, it mostly catered to characters, clothing, and similar items, which I felt weren’t quite in my wheelhouse. However, as I saw Renderosity evolve and expand its offerings, I decided to give it a try. I began publishing my props and sets, and I’ve never looked back. It’s been a rewarding experience, providing the exposure I was seeking, along with an additional stream of passive income.
How has Renderosity made a difference or helped your growth as a vendor?
Renderosity has been much easier to navigate, with a straightforward publishing process, and the support from their team has been exceptional. I truly believe these factors have contributed to my growth as a vendor. There’s no unnecessary complexity—just a direct and efficient approach. The sense of being treated like family is something I deeply appreciate, and it’s made all the difference in my experience.
What are some products you want to create in the near future and what goals do you have in mind as a vendor?
I’ve always wanted to create more architectural visualizations (archviz) across a wide variety of genres. I believe that artists with exceptional talent in creating characters and clothing deserve to showcase their work in beautiful, well-designed backgrounds. After all, you wouldn’t have a catwalk on a gray backdrop. A well-suited scene can significantly boost their sales by providing the right presentation. This is where I come in—to complement and elevate their creations. Currently, when I mention archviz, it reflects only a small portion of what’s available in my store, as I’m in the process of migrating many of my artworks from previous marketplaces. So, stay tuned—there’s much more to come!
Any last thoughts or comments for the community?
As an experienced artist, I’ve had the opportunity to work on a wide variety of projects. Marketplaces like Renderosity offer seasoned artists a second chance to thrive. We don’t fade away; we continue to learn, adapt to new technologies, and inspire others. It’s also a chance to motivate younger artists by showing them that their art doesn’t end with their old computer. Don’t be afraid to show what you can do. You might think your work isn’t good enough, but you’ll be surprised at how many people out there will appreciate it. Keep pushing the boundaries of CGI and never stop creating! :)
