Check out more in the Cinema 4D Gallery! ~Tips of the Week~ This week I approached Renderosity artist, ShamanX on his work in Lightwave: "I don't know if I am slick enough when it comes down to the nuts and bolts of Lightwave. I mainly use it just for the building of machines with a good portion of the work I do in Photoshop. I guess one thing that I like to work in Lightwave is the lighting and "Nernies and Greeblies". I believe that the term " Nernies and Greeblies" refers to all the busy-work on models like air ducts, pipes, access panels, handles, etc. The reason that I like to work this element is to give the lighting some substance to work with. I suspect that I could be much more effeicient by using texture and bump maps but I kind of like the building aspect of modeling. With the lighting, one of the first things that I do is turn down the global lighting to 0%. This allows me to get more dramatic lighting with what I am working on. I use reflections in my images a fair amout of time so another thing that I will do is to turn down the Ray recursion limit to about 4 instead of the default 16 which will cut down on the rendering time. Just a note, I am using an older version of Lightwave, so the newer versions may have aspects that I do not know about in reference to my tips. I am currently using Lightwave 6.5."
