July 2005 AOM - Svenart

Each month the Renderosity community votes on The Renderosity Artist of the Month Julys AOM was choosen from the following galleries; ArtMatic, Lightwave, Mojoworld. The artist voted July's AOM is Svenart [Sven Daennart]. We congratulate Svenart for his outstanding collection of Lightwave images.

Who is Svenart and how did you come by your username? Svenart is simply the short version of my Name Sven (Dn)art. After hours and hours (or should I say weeks?) of unsuccessful thinking about a good name, there came a day that I had to decide, so I finally chose this name. How long have you have you been creating computer graphics? The first time, I created computer graphics was on my Commodore64, I was 13 Years old (that was 17 Years ago). Two years later I got an Atari St and I begun using Deluxepaint and gfabasic. But, to be honest I was playing, more than seriously working at that age. After a break of a few years I started again working on an 286 PC and Deluxepaint 1993, and some years later, I changed to Photoshop, Bryce, and finally Lightwave. Do you have traditional art experience? Not very much. For a few years I tried to draw cartoons and comics, graffiti and airbrush. While studying at HTK Art School [Hamburger Technische Kunstschule Technical Art School Hamburg]. I took classes in oil and acrylic painting, act drawing [figure drawing], color theory, comic and storyboarding, and much more. However all of these courses were taken in a very short period of time. I was very interested in art-theories, but I was even more interested in 3D art and programming. What are you currently working on? My plan was to take a holiday this month, but there are too many things I still have to do/work on. Currently, I am working on finishing the last images and low-poly-characters for the ElCid game. I started programming a Leveleditor and some tools for Blitz3D a few weeks ago, and I have been converting my high poly models to low poly ones. What software/equipment do you use and why? Im almost working with Lightwave and Photoshop on an Amd 64+ 3200 with 1Gb Ram and Geforce 6600. What do you think your best piece of work is and why? Not easy to decide this. I think, The Medieval Marketplace is one of my best works, and has the most detailed images. The Medieval Marketplace svenart Why do you like to work with 3D software? Its simply the perfect instrument for me to illustrate everything I want. Who/what inspires you? I am inspired by many things, however, I will try to make it short. I love the artworks of MC Escher, Salvador Dali, Picasso, van Gogh, da Vinci, Rembrandt. Authors who have inspired my art are; Tolkien, Goethe (Faust), Wolfgang Holbein, Douglas Adams, Terry Pratchett, E.A. Poe, Lovecraft, and Herrmann Hesse. The graffities of Daim, Loomit, and Can2. Plus the music of Korn, Dead Can Dance, Hans Zimmer, Clannad, Pearl Jam, Jamiroquai, Mozart, Edward Grieg, Tom Jones, Public Enemy and much more. Currently (since 2 weeks), Im really inspired again by listening to old amiga/atari mods, and old game music from; Kefrens, Jochen Hippel, Ron Hubbard, Chris Huelsbeck, and Redsector. How has this online community (Renderosity) enhanced your work, relationships, and learning? I can fondly remember the day I uploaded my very first images on Renderosity. All the feedback, comments, critic and support here have been very important to me and helped me a lot. Being surrounded by so many brilliant artists here, on Renderosity, you have no other choice but to give your best. Do you have any parting comments/advice you would like to give your fellow artists? The best help you can get, is helping yourself. Start modeling simple objects (apples, glass of water, watch, etc.), and try to make them as realistic and detailed as possible. Check out tutorials from: Newtek, Flay.com, Amaan Akraam, worms-of-art, 3dtotal and Jeremy Birn [3dRender.com]. Learn about color-theory, Fibonacci, arranging elements in an image ... shapes and negative-shapes, HDRI [High Dynamic Range Illumination], Fresnel, and Nurbs modeling from a box.
