I finally got around to writing something about myself here. I've been a member since 2009, when I first started to get into digital art and 3D modelling. I only just started posting some images in the last few days - it's taken me this long to get myself up to a reasonable standard of proficiency in this medium, enough to justify getting a bit of a gallery together - I think. There are some amazingly talented people here! I'm in awe of some of what I've seen, and it makes me realise how much learning I still have to do in this field. But it's certainly inspiring.
Back in the day I used to paint for real (way before home computers existed - I'm a bit of an old dude), mostly oils on canvas, but I lost them all in a kind of household mishap that's too long-winded to go into here. I never painted again - not because of that, heart-breaking though it was - but because real painting requires light, space, ventilation and time - lots of time - and I've never since had all of those things together at the same time. Besides, digital art is less messy, less smelly, more forgiving, and just a whole lot of fun. I mostly use Bryce, Poser and Photoshop, with a bit of Hexagon for the occasional bit of sculpting. I realize there are far more sophisticated 3D software titles available but I'll work up to, and save up for, those. Bryce, despite its limitations, has provided me with an ideal way to ease into the 3D modelling world, with it's ease of use and relative simplicity.
I'm an Aussie, approaching the wrong end of middle-age at an alarming rate (laughs). I like to take on different kinds of subject matter for my digital art, as I did in my painting. I lean a bit towards space and sci-fi, having been into amateur astronomy since I was old enough to be into things. I'm not a huge sci-fi fan as such, but I love the potential for fantastical imagery inherent in that genre. I'm a bit of a vintage aircraft buff as well, particularly those from the WW2 era.
Thanks for the kind comments some of you have posted about my stuff so far, it's very much appreciated and encouraging. This is a wonderful online community, folks are very friendly and helpful.
I'll post a picture of myself once I get around to taking one, and can be reasonably sure it won't frighten anyone's kids... just joking. I'm not into selfies and I actually don't have any photos of myself on hand. I hope my username doesn't come across as egotistical - it refers to an old, old joke between me and some of my friends.
Take care everybody. Many thanks for taking the time to drop in here.
All the best!
