Dawn of the Dark

Stand with all your might,

Head low in reverence.

Its almost time to fight,

No matter the expense.

Ready muscles trained,

Anticipate the sum.

Wait for what is to grow,

The dawning dark will come!

I agree with visualgirl, great prizes, but also great theme! I love halloween, it's going to be fun and scary to participate!!

Agreed! These prizes are just spookily amazing! :D

With the creativity and imagination that runs rampant in this place I can't wait to see what everyone comes up with. Fantastic prizes as incentive too. I know I have my thinking cap on already.

Will user's name eventually be taken off the entry before community voting? I noticed names for the first three submissions.

bonestructure ( posted at 12:00AM Wed, 21 September 2005

The subscription to 3D world alone would be worth it to me. The Xfrog plants ain't bad either. Not to mention Softimage and Bodypaint.

Amazing prizes! It's gonna be great halloween this year :] I can't wait...

DarkStarRising ( posted at 12:00AM Thu, 22 September 2005

seems great, fab prizes, even though i have no idea what half of them are for!!! would loev to enter, but whats the point, the usual suspects will win, as usual, because of the community voting, all go for the usual people who win sighs anyhoo, good luck to those who do enter.

May want to read my "Special Note" about voting on the contest page. Also, we have added several "Random Drawing" prizes to make sure everyone has a real chance at getting something ;-) Best wishes, Lillian

digitalmusic ( posted at 12:00AM Thu, 22 September 2005

Wow - awesome prizes - let me at it!

Bea ( posted at 12:00AM Fri, 23 September 2005

It does disappoint me a little if the winners are to be chosen by community vote there do often seem to be a group of "usual suspects" Certainly there seem to be in the Hot 20 choices :( I suppose it would help however, if names etc were banned from the images. I notice that some of them already have names on them

fugiisland ( posted at 12:00AM Sat, 24 September 2005

i got to have 2nd or third prizes

spanishgirl ( posted at 12:00AM Mon, 26 September 2005

i would love to have any place everyone that is competing are wonderfull artists!

Prufrock81 ( posted at 12:00AM Sat, 01 October 2005

I enjoy these things and will probably participate for the love of it - however I really think the moderators need to know for a fact that "community votes" are seriously skewwed at Renderosity.com Apparently there is a large "circle" of members that keep thier votes reserved for a member of that circle...plain and simple. The pattern is unmistakable. Is serious critique and mature consideration were the order of the day here I'd say nothing about it. But the mere fact that you seem to be dealing with padding, fraud and juvenille solicitation tells me that a community vote at the very BEST will be skewwwed. You moderators donate so much talent and energy to this place and I dont think there is an artist here who questions your abilty to fairly judge a challenge or at the very least - appoint what is, in your judgement, a fair panel of judges. I think people take that professional responsibility alot more seriously when they are CHARGED publically with the task. Having said ALL that - (so sorry for being a windbag!) May I suggest that judges actually submit a brief blurb of why they were compelled by the piece and found it more sucessful than the others. What a fun learning experience that could be for us all!!!

fugiisland ( posted at 12:00AM Sat, 01 October 2005

that sounds like a very good idea

calum5 ( posted at 12:00AM Sun, 02 October 2005

Eyes still bulgeing at the prizes, one more aboard!:-)

beelzebulb ( posted at 12:00AM Mon, 03 October 2005

Have to agree with Prufrock81 with what is in my opinion very true. The reasons stated in Prufrock81's post are ones that I think stop a lot of people from entering most contests here on Renderosity. I can't remember the last time I entered any type of contest here over the years for that very reason. The groups or circles mentioned in Prufrock81's post change but never does the fact that it seems to be in most cases "thier votes reserved for a member of that circle" change. I like some of the suggestions put forward in a few posts here about perhaps making an effort to try and dissuade this type of influence on the results. People would then feel a bit more compelled to enter in the contests held here more often. That said good luck to all who enter this one:)

Great Prizes, Motivate me I going for it, this will be my first contest entry, and may the best artist win. Community of artist judgeinig voteing can't go wrong. Sounds like fun.

rockets ( posted at 12:00AM Wed, 05 October 2005

What a fun contest and wow, look at those prizes! I checked out the entries so far and there are some amazing images there already. It's going to be hard to judge this one!

rgallitan ( posted at 12:00AM Thu, 06 October 2005

Great prizes! I'd rather have 2nd place than first, though. :)

Invidia ( posted at 12:00AM Sun, 09 October 2005

Oh wow! Those are amazing prizes. I had to go create an entry, but there are already so many fabulous entries . . . it's gonna be a heck of a hard time judging them all.

JLyons ( posted at 12:00AM Sun, 09 October 2005

I am curious, why are signatures being allowed to be displayed so prominantly in the pictures? As this is a blatant form of solicitation, it is bringing the validity of this contest into question. Blatant signatures reduce the chances of a piece being judged anonymously and on merit alone, and also invites the community to vote based solely on who you know. While I'm all for artists protecting their work by signing; in a contest, it should be done discreetly. Thanks for your time on this matter.

beelzebulb ( posted at 12:00AM Mon, 10 October 2005

rgallitan says "Great prizes! I'd rather have 2nd place than first, though. :)" Have to agree somewhat although 3rd looks good to me since I am waiting for delivery of CD's of Cinema4D and BodyPaint in the mail and already have Poser6 and Shade:)

Just making sure I have the rules right - been keeping track of the numbers of my favorites - there's SO many cool images to choose from folks! The "community vote" - when we vote will we be giving 25 numbers? Most contests here are just 3 numbers, so I just wanted to be sure.

deemarie ( posted at 12:00AM Sat, 15 October 2005

Contest Voting ... Hi everyone :] Just want to make sure everyone understands the voting process ... First a reminder - ALL entries MUST be timestamped by Monday, October 17th, 2005 at 12:00p.m., or cannot be accepted. Community vote will take place Oct. 18th through Oct. 23rd to select the top 25.

  • From Oct. 18th to Oct. 23rd ... Members of the Renderosity Community will be able to place "ONE" vote for their favorite entry!
  • Clone Voting is NOT allowed!
  • Any attempt at clone voting could result in votes not being counted [with possible DQ of an entry]
  • The TOP 25 entries will then be sent to the Judges of the Voting Panel!
  • Judging will take place Oct. 24th through Oct. 28th.
  • Winners to be announced Monday, October 31, 2005...at midnight in the Contest forum, the Community Center forum and on the Renderosity FrontPage. Hope this helps to answer questions :] Dee-Marie

Invidia ( posted at 12:00AM Sat, 15 October 2005

I have a question about the order of the images in the contest. When my entry first went up it was number 201. Now it is farther down the list and I'm wondering how images got in front of mine. (It's not a problem or anything, but it certainly is a curiosity.) Best Blessings, --Invidia

LillianH ( posted at 12:00AM Sat, 15 October 2005

Hi Invidia, This commonly happens when there are entries that were received prior to yours that were held for review and correction. The images appear in the date order they were received in. However, that may not be the date order they were approved in. That is what causes the image placements to move. I hope that helps to understand. Best wishes, LillianH Renderosity Marketing Manager

Happy Halloween all! I fell ShadowFX has it right, everyone's a winner when all this great art gets created and shared. Entering a contest also represents a scary challenge in itself to many and that too is an opportunity for growth in skills and style. It sure is fun seeing all the fantastic and creative entries. Best Regards, Mcv
