SIGGRAPH 2010: Autodesk Showcases Latest Digital Entertainment Creation Workflows

Live in Los Angeles and Virtually on the AREA

Autodesk, Inc. will showcase its Digital Entertainment Creation (DEC) technology and how it enables cutting-edge pipelines for games, film and television production at SIGGRAPH 2010, July 27-29 in Los Angeles. At the Autodesk booth (South Hall, #500), the company will demonstrate how its DEC workflows help support innovative and growing trends in the entertainment industry: stereoscopic 3D production to virtual moviemaking. Show attendees can also try Autodesk software for the PC, Mac and iPad in the booth's "hands-on" area.

For th ose not attending the show, Autodesk will also offer a virtual event during SIGGRAPH, including free Autodesk MasterClasses, live video streaming from the Autodesk booth and other exclusive web content. The virtual event can be visited at area.autodesk.com/siggraph beginning July 27.

Autodesk Booth -- South Hall, #500
For the first time at SIGGRAPH, Autodesk's booth will include a "hands-on" area staffed by Autodesk experts, where attendees can try out Autodesk's software for PC, Mac and iPad. The area will also include an InterSense virtual camera and wand, installed with a stereoscopic 3D monitor, to enable show-goers to experience working in stereo 3D, while interactively adjusting shots and motion capture data in Autodesk MotionBuilder software.

In its theater, Autodesk will offer DEC workflow demonstrations on previsualization, virtual moviemaking and 3D stereoscopic finishing. As part of the previsualization and virtual moviemaking demonstrations, Autodesk will work with NaturalPoint to show real-time motion capture live on the show floor.

Also in the theater, guest demonstrations will be offered by Lightstorm Entertainment, Digital Domain and Blur Studios and The Mill highlighting how Autodesk software was used to help create "Avatar," "Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief," "Mass Effect 2" and the Barclaycard "Rollercoaster" spot respectively.

Autodesk is supporting several SIGGRAPH events, including the California Educators Birds of a Feather lunch and Computer Graphics World's 2010 Student Volunteer opening and closing receptions.

Autodesk is one of the sponsors of SIGKids Mentor Program as part of the SIGGRAPH Outreach Program, The program offers advice and guidance from industry professionals to students attending the conference from local high schools in the Los Angeles area. In support of the SIGGRAPH "Girl Scout Games for Life" session, representatives from Autodesk will participate in a Q&A session designed for parents with children interested in working in the game industry.

Autodesk will also provide 65 30-day evaluation licenses* of the Autodesk Education Suite for Entertainment Creation to the "SIGGRAPH Studio," where students and professionals can experiment with the technology.

Autodesk Education Summit
On Monday, July 26, from 3:30-5:30 p.m. local time, Autodesk will host an Education Summit, with support from HP. At the event, educators can connect with industry professionals to discuss key industry trends and best practices, network with their peers and learn about Autodesk products and programs. Autodesk Certified Instructors (ACIs) are invited to join the annual ACI Meeting on Tuesday, July 27, from 4-7 p.m. local time. This year, Autodesk has expanded its virtual event to include AREA TV, offering interviews with customers and Autodesk representatives, behind-the-scenes videos and on-scene reports from Autodesk events. On-demand product demonstrations and live streaming of Autodesk theater presentations will also be part of the virtual event.

Autodesk MasterClasses
With the support of Wacom, Autodesk will offer three free MasterClasses exclusively online.. In these sessions, industry experts Perry Harovas, Michael McCarthy and Wayne Robson will offer tips and tricks for Autodesk DEC software. The classes will be available on Autodesk's virtual event site in English beginning on July 27. For eign-language classes will also be posted shortly after the conference.

"Previsualization -- Past, Present and Future" Documentary
Beginning July 27, "Previsualization -- Past, Present, Future," part one of a documentary series produced by the Previsualization Society, will be featured on the AREA at http://area.autodesl.com . Founding members and industry luminaries analyze the use of previsualization in the filmmaking process and examine its benefits both creatively and economically. Included is commentary by David Dozoretz and Brian Pohl (POV Previs LLC), Chris Edwards (The Third Floor, Inc.), Ron Frankel (Proof Inc.), Colin Green (Pixel Liberation Front), Dan Gregoire (Halon Entertainment), Rick McCallum (JAK Films) and Dennis Muren (Industrial Light & Magic).
