Who is 'rebelmommy' and how did you come by that username?

Thank you for this wonderful honor! Lets see, my name is Amy. I am 35 (Yikes) and am a mom, wife and Poser addict. I live on the Southern East coast of Florida (USA) with my husband and our ever growing group of children, whom range in age from 16 to 4 years. The Rebelmommy username really personifies who I am :) I am always first and foremost a mommy, but as my mother would surely tell you, I have always been, from day 1, a rebel. So, rebelmommy just seemed an obvious choice when choosing a username!

Have you had any traditional art experience or training?

No, the closest I have ever come to any formal art experience was being a Fine Arts major in high school, but I took only the 1 required Art class and devoted the rest of my study to music. I found after High School that I really did enjoy art and taught myself the basics with paints, charcoals and pastels.

What are you currently working on?

I am learning to model, so hopefully, you will be seeing some expansion in my lines soon!

What software is currently in your digital toolset and why?

My current workflow usually involves Poser, ZBrush, Blacksmith3D, Photoshop and PaintShop Pro for characters, and I am still bouncing back and forth between Hexagon and Cinema 4D in my attempts to model. My choice of programs is simply because, after much experimentation with Demo/Trials of programs, I found these to work best for me. I truly believe when picking a software package, that it is really about finding a program that you feel comfortable in, because what works best for one person may not always be a good fit for another.

How would you describe your creative process?

Chaotic!! LOL...Seriously, I usually have at least 3 or 4 projects going at the same time, sometimes more. There are many projects that get started, only to be finished and make it to market more then a year later, because I have completley forgotten about them, or been sidetracked by another project.

Are there perhaps any tips or tricks you have found in your own work that might be of help to others learning the software you use?

Other then finding a program that works for them and not picking a program because it's the popular choice, or what everyone else is using, I don't, actually. I still admit to being very much in my learning infancy when it comes to using my programs. I will say that I still work in ZBrush 2, even though I have 3 and will be aquiring 4, simply because I am more comfortable in 2. I use PSP9 mostly, though I do work in Photoshop CS4 occasionally, but I again stay with PSP, primarily because it is what is comfortable for me. So, really, the best tip I can give is to go with what is best for you and what feels right to you in your workflow.

Where do you find inspiration for your products, and do you have any particular favorite among the products you've created?

I find inspiration everywhere... shopping malls, the beaches, my children and their friends. All too often, I find myself watching people and thinking to myself what character base their faces would look best on. I get a strange look or two on occasion, but really, I find that people have amazing faces and give me a great deal of inspiration, and then I am off and running. I don't know if I have one favorite product, because I really love all of my products. But, if forced to pick, I would say that Adrinna and Sapphire, as well as Bianca and Moss, are amoung my favorites.

Have you ever created product in response to customer feedback?

I have! Bianca is one of the products I created specifically based on customer feedback, and, as I said, she is one of my favorites!

Do you have any advice for aspiring Digital Content Developers?

Don't give up just because you may get frustrated early on. And yes, I know it is cliche, but read the manual! I swear I have a Poser manual in my car, along with one for Vue, and when I am bored and stuck in my car, I read them. LOL, I did actually learn alot from them :)

Don't be afraid to ask questions. Renderosity has a wealth of knowledge in its forums and Tutorial section, and in its members who are more then willing to share!

How has this online Community (Renderosity) enhanced your work, relationships, and learning?

When I first came to Renderosity in 2004, I had no idea what to expect, but found a group of people who are generally warm and friendly and willing to give you help and an unlimited amount of advice if you ask for it. When I posted my first image in the gallery, I had not expected the response I got. People gave me wonderful advice on lighting and camera angles, and really overall, helped me improve my images ten-fold.

When I wanted to learn to create my own custom character morphs and skins, I was hesitant to ask anyone for help, as I wasn't sure they would want to share their knowledge with me. But, I did, and found that the community was very helpful in giving me tips and advice (thank you Gabe!) and sending me links to tutorials, products, etc., that helped me. I have made a lot of great friends here, learned a lot about 3D, and art in general, and am always amazed at the wealth of information that is available here through the community, the forums and the tutorials.

Do you have any final words or advice for other digital artists?

Don't give up EVER!! If you don't succeed right away, don't be afraid to ask questions or move beyond your comfort zone. The only way to grow in your craft is to constantly try to better it or to learn something new. And lastly, do what you LOVE!!
