Renderosity Free Stuff Artist - specs2

Each month we showcase a Renderosity Free Stuff Artist, in appreciation for their thoughtfulness, and countless hours spent creating free items for the Renderosity community. This month we are proud to showcase the works of Christian G., better know to his Renderosity fellow artists as specs2.

Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?

I'm a 23-year-old graphics design student from Germany. I usually create my "free stuff" for my own purposes, first, as a modeling exercise, but sometimes they turn out better then I expected and I decide to share them with community. My biggest hope is, that I get to work in the 3D animation sector, once I'm done with my studies.

Did you begin with modeling or did you begin with Poser?

I think, I started both things at the same time. I had Poser and 3ds MAX. The thing was, Poser didnít have a large variety of clothing and props at that time, so I decided to make my own. It appeared to be harder than expected, but in the end, I managed to master the 3D software. In the meantime, I've switched to Cinema 4D, which appears to be more comfortable for modeling purposes.

What version of Poser do you use, and why do you like it best

I'm using Poser 6 for the rigging of the clothing, etc. ó but for scene setups, I prefer Poser Pro Pack, which seems to be easier to use, due to some simpler interface design.

You offer a lot of unique clothing items. Where do you get your ideas from?

My biggest passions are games and comics, and I think most of my freebies have been inspired by them. I've also been inspired by fantasy artists like Luis Royo or Anime and Manga artists like Masamune Shirow or Satoshi Urushihara.

What was the first model you ever made? Did it come out the way you planned?

My first try at 3D modeling was actually the hardest. I had no clue about the software. I tried to make a human figure, but it didnít look the way envisioned. [laughter] After reading through several tutorials, I discovered, I was trying to progress too swiftly. So, I stepped back a bit and created simple props.

When things just aren't going the way you planned what keeps you going?

My stubbornness! [more laughter]

Of all the models you've made, what's your favorite? Why?

I think, it's Sera ... or maybe Blood Rayne ... or ... can't really tell. I sorta like all of them, otherwise I wouldn't have made them.

I've noticed that you have started creating characters. How do you compare making clothing to characters? Which do you enjoy more?

Making characters is certainly different. If you make clothing, most of the time, you copy settings from the base character (for example Victoria 3). If it comes to characters like the horsey figure, you're more free with the setup, since it's not the figure, that defines the setup, but you. I think, making characters, or being able to make them, is a big step to bring more variety to Poser.

Just being curious here, do you have a favorite Poser character?

DAZ did a great job with Aiko3. Considering, I'm an Anime and Manga fan. She's a great base, to realize some of the amazing outfits and characters that appear in a lot of those Anime and Mangas comics.

Do you have a favorite free stuff provider? Who is it and why?

I admire the works of Mr. Kozaburo. Being able to make hair (which I'm bad at) and distributing the models for free shows his generosity, for which I'm thankful.

What is your favorite image created with your free stuff?

That's like asking a mother for her favorite child... I'm thankful to anyone, who's being using my free stuff to make artwork.

How long have you been a member of the Poser Community? What do you like best about it?

I've been a member of Renderosity since 2000. I like to visit the chat room and talk to people who share my interests. I also enjoy, people, posting artwork with a part of my work, letting me know they like what I did.

Do you have any advice for someone just starting out modeling and sharing free stuff items?

I would say, never give up, ask someone experienced and use tutorials. Ask people for constructive feedback. They'll give you good advice on how things can look better. If you're having trouble with the modeling software, check the Renderosity software forums or the chat room. For sure, there is always someone eager to help out.

Your A3 characters are fantastic! I really love the Queen Bee! It just shows the talent and generosity you have. I used the Bee with a very small morph of A3 and it still worked flawlessly! You don't see that in a lot of free props. You're stuff is great and I thank you very much for sharing your talent with the rest of us who don't know what the *%^$ we're doing. ;)
