Second Skins and displacement

A simple trick to add some depth to second skin textures using Poser 5/6 displacement mapping.

Introduction



Second skins are an easy way to add tight clothing to a character, and so it's not surprising that a lot of characters, both commercial and free, have some extra materials to add stockings, undies, tight jeans and tops, and/or gloves to a character.

The main disadvantage of this method is that those clothes usually look "painted on", because they ARE painted on. See the image above, this is an example of nice looking stockings painted on to the legs of Victoria 3.

In this tutorial I will show you how you can add some depth to these painted on clothes using the displacement features of Poser 5 and 6. No extra maps are needed, just some calculations.

I followed the tutorial to the tee (poser 6), and I can't see any displacement in the stockings. Any suggestions?

Any Idea how to do this in Poser 6 because my menues do not alow me the otions you present in your tutorials. No UV map shown Skin color in skin color not white etc... The point is I can not make sence of the tutorial as good and usefull as it seams to be because I have poser 6. Any suggestions.
