After posting three landscapes in a row, I figured I'd better put up something that's more my style so you'll know it's really me! :)

Exposed rock face outside Canyonlands National Park, Utah.

Zoom shows off the details.

Makes for an interesting abstract. The patterns and color variations give it a sort of liquid appearance.

I love the way this crosses borders! My inner geologist is sitting here trying to figure out the history of this particular rock, while my muse, zonked on Dr. Pepper, is giggling at the idea that this is probably the close up of an exotic reptile's scale. I don't know if this makes me think of petrified wood or something involving appetite-friendly amounts of butter-pecan ice cream and caramel. As an abstract it works so perfectly, and as a super-zoom detail of something way bigger, it works perfectly, in short, it works perfectly on so many different levels and it's just flat out gorgeous too!

Caramel/Chocolate dessert - YUM!
It could have been easily a wood texture, you know? even your own Brother would have to agree with that,
working with it on a regular basis.
(just like my Brother in Germany) ;))
lovely rich colour palette,

Ooh, my favorite: textures! there's an almost woodgrain feel, and know that it's rock makes this even more wonderful.
