My human eye sight is far from perfect in these dim
passageways, I did not see him standing there at first. I think
Titan and Bit may have noticed him before I did, but without speech I
tend to ignore their shenanigans.
I try and focus on him and can not believe what I'm seeing. An actual elf?! Skin like that of freshly fallen snow, hair a blue I've never known, and yet he is tall for an elf. The real question is he a friend or a foe. He moves so slightly, graceful and quiet like a cat as he shifts from the shadow into the light.
“You should not be here. I've been watching you since you arrived and this place is not safe for one like you. You did well enough against the skeletons but this tomb is home to evils much greater.” he hesitates and continues, “ Why are you here?”
This elves expression is calm and cool which unnerves me a bit. I glance to see Titan and Bit share my concern. I find my hands shaking
and a bead of sweat begins to form on my brow. This guy makes the hair
on the back of my neck stand up. My gut is telling me he is dangerous.
“We needed shelter from the storm.” I say hesitantly.
He raises an eyebrow in what looks to be disbelief and says in a somewhat sarcastic tone, “You came into an ancient, evil tomb to avoid a storm?” He points behind me and says, “Go back.”
“Can't do that.” I say as confident sounding as I can manage. “Why don't you go your way and allow us to go ours? I've come to far to turn back now.”
“I can't do that,” he says “I've seen what's ahead, and I do not want you to die meaninglessly. This tomb is beyond your abilities. For your own good go back. I want no responsibility in your death, no rewards here are worth that.”
The sincerity of his words seems genuine. He also looks skilled
enough that he could have killed us by now if he wanted to. So
stubbornly I say, “ We're not leaving! You can either allow us to
accompany you or you can let us go our own way!”
For the first time the man looks irritated, he takes a deep breath and I step back a little. But he only mumbles something to himself and turns moving farther down the corridor. I figure we were not worth the trouble after all, so I just need to wait a few minutes before moving on. Then his voice breaks through the darkness, “If your coming then you need to keep up, I will only give you this one chance. Either keep up or go back.”
“What do you guys think?” I whisper to my minions. Bit is frantically gesturing toward the way back, but Titan is already moving after the man.
"Sorry Bit, I'm with Titan on this one.”
“I'm Hayden.” I call out, “Never did get your name.”
From the darkness comes a single word.

For those wondering about why the change from third person to first? The only answer I have is that this series has changed into so much more than I expected, the story evolved into more as well. Hopefully you enjoy the change as much as I do.

Thanks again

"What are you doing in this anciet, forgotten tomb?"

"Okay, funny story... see, there was this dragon, right? And..."

Ha-ha. Personally I think the clincher would have been when she heard the word "rewards"! I also think she should be asking Tate what HE'S doing in the tomb! Hayden is there by misfortune... he is obviously there for a reason.

Reminds me a bit of Moria. "The Dwarves dug too deeply..." Perhaps the eponymous Unspeakable Evil resides with in the deep darkness?

Don't worry about the change in style. Just let it evolve as you see fit. Point is that you get your story across.

I hope for more parts of this story. I´m glad that you have decided to extend it.
But it´s much to read. No problem if english is your mother tongue. But mine isn´t.
Such stress in the late afternoon... omg ; )
