Greetings Folks,

This is for Mike, because he likes cars (of an age lol) and we never see this anymore.. lol

Taken at the Stamford Classic and Custom Car Show, in front of the bouncy castle (where many may say this car belongs lol)..

The Austin Maestro is a compact-sized five-door hatchback car (and two-door van derivative) that was produced from 1983 to 1994, initially by the Austin Rover subsidiary of British Leyland (BL), and from 1988 onwards by its successor, Rover Group. The car was produced at the former Morris plant in Cowley, Oxford. It was initially sold as an Austin and a MG. Later models have sometimes been referred to as the Rover Maestro, but the model never wore the Rover badge. Descendants of the Maestro are still being produced in China.

The Maestro sold over 600,000 units thanks to a spacious, practical interior, competitive asking prices, low running costs and good ride and handling, although it failed to match the success of the Ford Escort and Vauxhall Astra.

A survey by Auto Express magazine, conducted in August 2006, revealed that the Maestro was Britain's ninth most scrapped car of the previous 30 years, with just 11,574 examples still in circulation and in working order in the United Kingdom.

Hope you like the memories.. There are still about 500 registered in the UK, though are they running? lol

I had one of these for a while and they weren't as bad as people make out.
OK usual B/L shabby build quality but they drove a rode ok and were very roomy inside.
One of the main problems of that time is that B/L would keep a car in production for a while but never had the money to develop them.

Thanks so much for this mate... a real trip down the old memory lane :)

That's a trip down memory lane!!.. the MG Maestro was a pretty good car, as was the montego.. but the damage to BL's reputation has alrady been done with Marina's and Allegro's.. not that they were bad cars either, just badly built!

I know the Escort and the Astra, but I have never seen one of these. I love cars and bikes, whether they be big V8's or rollar skate-like rally cars! (I own one of each too)! I love the power of my big Ford, but I also love the handling of my pocket rocket. Horses for courses I guess. If they have wheels and go then I love em! And I love jumping castles too!!!!!!!!!!!

Music, Maestro, please.
Reflections apparent in this cool capture of another car I never heard of, this one basking in sunshine, which is quite a departure from your usual auto show pics, mate.

Nice shot of this neat little car, Rob! I had a Ford Escort once..... I would've rather had this one – it wasn't a really good experience!

Cool photo, mate!

Suspect this handsome little Austin Maestro never made an appearance on this side of the pond. I always like reading about and seeing little gems like this. I might come across one on a quiz one day:)
