Greetings Folks,

Finally remembering the long lost Airlines of World series, I've dragged one out of the files with a one off paint scheme on....

This was taken at Heathrow, on a really grungy day (sorry about the sky), but the Gold and the writing shows up well..

Gulf Air (Arabic: طيران الخليج‎ Ṭayarān al-Khalīj) is the principal flag carrier of the Kingdom of Bahrain. Headquartered in Muharraq, adjacent to Bahrain International Airport, the airline operates scheduled services to 41 destinations in 30 countries across Africa, Asia and Europe. Its main base is Bahrain International Airport. and major destinations include London, Paris, Rome, Frankfurt, Dubai, Karachi, and Mumbai, Bangalore..

In the late 1940s Freddie Bosworth, a British pilot and entrepreneur, began an air taxi service to Doha and Dhahran from Bahrain. Bosworth later expanded service and on 24 March 1950 registered Gulf Aviation Company Limited as a private shareholding company. This makes its current operating company, Gulf Air, one of the oldest carriers in the Middle East. The early fleet contained seven Avro Ansons and three De Havilland DH.86B 4-engine biplanes.

In October 1951, British Overseas Airways Corporation (BOAC) became a major shareholder in Gulf Aviation, holding a 22% stake through the BOAC subsidiary company BOAC Associated Companies.

In 1973 the governments of the Emirate (now Kingdom) of Bahrain, the State of Qatar, the Emirate of Abu Dhabi and the Sultanate of Oman agreed to purchase the BOAC Associated Companies holding in Gulf Aviation. The Foundation Treaty was signed on 1 January 1974 and gave each government a 25% shareholding in Gulf Aviation, which became a holding company. The operating company was now branded as Gulf Air and became the flag carrier for the four states..

There you go, a brief (long!) History lol

These aircaft are due to be replaced in the near future with newer Airbuses..

I'll try and remember more in future, I have a few goodies! lol
Enjoy
Rob

That's probably REAL gold!! :-) I'm glad they were restrained about this, they could have gone OTT and 'dipped' the whole plane. I do like the Falcon on the tail though...another excellent addition to this occasional series. 10/10

(p.s Don't forget to post more....well you said you needed reminding! oh, not this soon....sorry!)

A beauty Rob. I too like your airlines series. Keep 'em coming:)

If I could wangle my way onto the airfield by the Boeing paint shop, I could capture all sorts of airlines paint schemes. Every Boeing aircraft is painted right here prior to delivery and fly away by their new owners.

Cool freeze capture of the beautifully painted Airbus -- Boeing's main competitor -- as it soars into the air, Rob. At least you didn't have to worry about prop blur in this one.

Actually I think a day like this one is excellent for photographing large objects like this aircraft. On a bright sunny day there frequently many things obscured by shadows.

A really great shot of this Airbus, Rob! Perfect timing as he's lifting off and the gear is just beginning to go up.
