Sorry to learn that your Mom is getting worse.. it is very sad, and what's worse, nothing you can do about it short of putting them into permanent care.. and THAT is one tough decision.

it's got to be hard... maybe even worse than losing them to death. My Mom's Birthday is today, she would of been 86 - she passed at 74... My X mother in law's Mother was in a facility and when the X mother in law went to see her, her Mother slapped her and said she hated her and didn't know who she was... very sad.... I compare it to when my X and I got a divorce, she still looked like the woman I was in love with, but it was like she was posesed by another soul.
advice? that's tough... first of all, I'd have to look at safety... can she be trusted by herself - if there is any sign of threats or danger, I'd have to say you have to look out for number one - yourself.... and if she thinks she's kidnapped, that's not a good sign... You are going through something with your parent that I will never have to go through - it's tough, cause as much as I miss my Mother, I would not want to have to go through what you're going through. Trust your heart... puting her in care is not a bad thing, it's the safe thing to do, for you and others.... don't feel bad about doing it - IT'S A SAFETY ISSUE - none of this is your fault, so when you make that move, don't let I should of done this or that creep into your head and when it does, the only question you need to answer is, was it the best and safest move for all involved. good luck, my prayers are with you.

I certainly can relate to the emotions you are feeling about your Mother. My own Mother had to be placed in a nursing home when her alzheimers got so bad. One of my older brothers had to make the decision, but it was very hard on all the rest of us. We all were very emotionally torn to have to face the reality of what life was doing to our beloved Mother. So I pray for you very much that you are able to face the huge challenges ahead of you and be able to handle all of the with grace and dignity! May God Bless all your family, Sherrie!

So sorry to hear how you mum is it's not a good situation to be in.. It's hard when you love her so much to see her like this, and not wanting to put her in a home. The thing is how are you coping? If the stress of this is affecting you health wise and mentally then perhaps a home is where she needs to be with nurses that are not effected the same as you are. If her mind is gone then really the only one that is going to be worrying themselves about her being in the home is you, and her safety is what matters at this stage. What if she gets out the door and disappears down the road that would be worse..
Hope all works out for you and your husband and will be thinking of you at this time!!

I'm sorry to hear that your Mum has deteriated more and that she is getting harder to nurse. I agree with what Bazza says as your Mother wouldn't want to be a burden to you and probably needs professional care.

Sorry to hear about your Mom. That's a tough situation, but I think mikeerson had some good advice. You're not dealing with Alzheimers. You're dealing with dementia. Still, you have to do what you feel is right.
