PLEASE ZOOM otherwise what's the point :)

My first attempt at a deep-sky object.

Considering that the telescope was nearly horizontal (meaning lots of cr*ppy Derby air to see through), I'm very happy with the way this turned out.

Unfortunately my telescope is a bit too powerful at minimum magnification to encompass the whole Orion nebula, so this is just the core.

The nebula is a region of space where stars are forming without any help from Simon Cowell.

It is a stack of 60 x 20 sec exposures at ISO 800, and 60 x 20s at ISO 3200, making about 40 minutes all-in. It's worth noting that a single 20 second exposure at F15 produced a reasonable result, so any of you with a fast-ish 300mm lens or above might want to have a go at this yourself.

Thanks for looking & have a great weekend (I think I'm coming down with the 'flu so going to go to bed with a large brandy...)

Nice shot of the stars-kindergarten.
Who can imagine the stories of each planet of these stars?

Thanks for sharing.

Fantastic shot, very impressive. One of my most favourite nebulas. It puts my one attempt at shooting it to shame... Just waiting for a clear night here...
