The dark lord stood at the massive window in uncharacteristic contemplation. The bustling seaport below brought a small smile of approval to his face, another first for him. Things were finally back on track.

Shipments were being received and dispatched at a record pace and bright sails dotted the Freskon Sea to the horizon. The dark rider, Galen, had finally been killed and his scraggly remains dragged through the towns to remind everyone just who controlled the countryside. While they had not located her body, several reliable accounts corroborated that the irritating Elf half-breed had fallen in battle covered with blood. And without these agitators ratcheting up their hope, the villages had quieted down again and no longer overtly resisted the Greener patrols.

But still... still... A small annoying tic and the shadow of a frown settled on his face.

Still, they had NOT found the Elf whore's body. And it seemed as if his contacts in Jobil City had gone blind or been driven underground - he had received no new reports from them in weeks. There also were a few very strange reports of missing patrols and vanished raiders near the eastern Packran mountains and from the northwest corner of the Disputed Lands.

A small commotion in the street captured his attention. A woman had pulled loose from her escorts and attempted to run away, but the weight of heavy chains and shackles on her hands and feet slowed her and she was soon recaptured. One of the guards viciously backhanded her and she was knocked to the ground nearly unconscious. The men slid a wooden plank under her and bodily carried her to the bustling docks.

A tiny smile played on Lord Logash's lips as a servant offered a cool drink. He shocked the man by smiling at him as he took the goblet and settled into his throne. He stroked the arms of the symbolic seat of power and gave a satisfied sigh. Mentally, he had to remind himself that no nation was easy to govern, none was perfect. But HIS lands were once again running very well, indeed.

And that knowledge gave him a great deal of pleasure.

This one is not exactly what I wanted, but frankly I've run out of time for a bit and I wanted to get the chapter posted. I just got back from the Sierra and have nearly 300 images to sift through and process. But nasty old obligations are keeping me from the fun stuff...

UPDATE: Many of you are speculating that this is a new character. In fact, he was featured in chapters 38 and 48. I realize the story has stopped and started so much it is easy to lose continuity, so I offer this info, hope it isn't TOO much of a spoiler.

Please leave a comment yea or nay, I truly value your words...

I take it this is the bad guy, and very suitable to it he is. He thinks he's won but I'm sure time will show him otherwise! Another great installment!
