AUTUMN SILENCE SONG
The prickled pines and single season green
Perspiring jungles never change suggest
Monotony is master of all life.
But we who dwell in other climes enjoy
The ecstasies of difference: the hope
Of emerald springtime, beauty’s leaves
Whose red and yellow gems put trust
In hearts that time will resurrect our dreams;
That killer frosts and silence are not ends.
Man’s telescopes now probe the galaxies
To show dimensions we can’t fathom. But
Quite sadly they don’t even hint at “WHY?”
Perhaps embracing autumn’s wondrous nights
Is just enough to feel divinity
Our minds cannot define. Abandoning
The wasted centuries of brushing gods
With human qualities could open us
To love of being one with rapture’s joy.
Perhaps by sensing for a moment
We were made to share the stars is quite enough
Before we all embrace our wintered sleep.
