Stark silence … nothingness sublime! No horns,
No screaming sirens, voices terrified
By quiet, media on “MUTE” behind
Shut doors. Just crickets chirping arias
To night times distant stars that prompt
A question. Has divinity used space
To hush its universe in chaos or
To prompt the human mind to contemplate
Extinction where its vanity to be
Remembered lies forgotten in a grave.
To some, rich faith insists a caring God
Will number all our bones; that after life
Dark night gives way to glories’ light. But that
Assumes whatever caused all this is trapped
With feelings and pathetic needs to cry
For reasons. God is greater than frail hope.
I’ve lived: known wars and death; know joy and love
When sunsets cradles me in ashes, I will pray
To be an atom chirping joyously
My hymn to all the mysteries of time.
