I have just loved all the images of the crab spiders that Andrea has posted, and did a search. We have them on this side of the world as well! And finally, after looking and looking, I found one out at the Hollow. This one was sitting on a cornflower, or bachelor's button (Centaurea cyanus), the flower seems to go by either name depending on where you live.
I've since see a few more of these spiders, but I think this was the best shot. I even saw teensy tiny baby one!!
These spiders are hunters, and have excellent vision. They sit quietly and wait for a bug to approach then grab it. Wonder if she knows there's a little beetle right behind her!I read that these spiders are able to change color in a limited fashion. I noticed on yellow flowers they tended to be able to blend in much better then here.
In case anyone's interested, this one is Thomasidae Misumena vatia, at least I'm pretty sure that's what she is. Oh .. and it may not be a she, grins.

I have to tell you all, I just loved all the stories quite a few of made up to go with the last posting, "The Horror of it All"! I had SO much fun reading them all. Thank you so much!

Thank you for all the comments, for all the faves, and to all who stopped to look.

Fab find, Rita! And it is a she, the males are very much smaller and run rather a risk of becoming a wedding breakfast!

A super capture of this little white spider. I'm chuckling over the little beetle behind her and I am waiting for it to say 'boo', and then run away. This little fellow has quite long legs, just enough to spook me.
