Was listening to the Abney Park album “Lost Horizons”. It re-kindled an interest I had back in undergrad school in visual semiotics, and the mechanism of the perceptual gestalt. I did this small study, and I thought it turned out rather interesting using a simple signifier, I’m rather pleased with the way the signified worked. Although I don’t think its exactly Captian Roberts had in mind...lol I still find the tune a bit haunting. 	by Chipka on Feb 2, 2010 6:52:42 pm [homepage] What an intriguing character. I find often that androgyny is such an impossible thing to truly convey, but you do so perfectly here. I love the details, the weird mix of visual cues that keep this whole image wonderfully off balance, and as I look at it, I find myself exploring all of the deconstructionist theories I'd inhaled during my college years, when I was in the midst of an attempt to lay my hands on any Foucoult or Derrida that I could find...hmmm...I suspect that I just misspelled someone's name here...but oh well...just say that I "deconstructed" it. This is a gorgeous and compelling piece of work, haunting in so many ways, and well...needless to say, I love it.
