I need some serious help here, particularly from you Vue users. I think this render is "okay", but could probably be a LOT better. The Crylophosaurus textured well (especially after a little SSS), just because it's a Dinoraul model, and his models are always incredible. Even the Daz gorilla textured pretty well, comsidering that the fur on most Daz models tends to look a little fake.
However-oddly enough, considering that Vue was designed as a landscaping program- I'm having a hell of a time getting a good background. The biggest mistakes that stand out are the dust and the texture on the mountain in the rear.
The dust can probably be fixed easily enough by increasing the size of the transparency function. The mountain texture looks too "mathematical",a common problem I've noticed when you reduce the scale of a procedural texture or bump too much. I have no clue how to fix this...
The other glaring error that hits the eye is the texturing on the trees. I keep getting "bands" where the texture lines don't match up. Is this due to a small polygon count in the model, or a peculiarity with Vue?
Also, any other improvements that could be made would be gratefully appreciated...

Nice action scene! I am certainly no expert but one suggestion for the trees is to try increasing the resolution and maybe try scaling the bark textures (and the mountain textures as well). You can also try changing the bark textures with some of the other bark textures that come with some of the higher resolution trees included with Vue. Hope this helps.

Great Job! Just remember that it is a jungle, not much dust. Maybe have them kick up some debris, like leaves and rocks. Work with your lighting to get more silhouettes from your background. And the fur on Kong I used photoshop. Take a look at my version. Good luck and keep experimenting. http://www.renderosity.com/mod/gallery/index.php?image_id=1983283&user_id=20174&member&np

I like the composition and the action - very good indeed. By coincidence I was watching the remake of Kong last night. Try a mistier atmosphere perhaps? That would certainly soften the mountain in the background. Foliage can be very hit and miss in Vue, try a different kind if you don't like this one - I find some Vue trees totally unrealistic for such a wonderful program - also, maybe scale the leaves down a bit, remembering that Kong is massive. That would also increase the scale of the whole scene - maybe more tree trunks showing behind would be helpful too. That little cluster on the right works well. Lastly, a few overhanging leaves in the foreground might help soften the tree bark of the fallen tree and give the sense that we are peering out of from a secluded vantage point.

Very nice action scene. Great creatures! I agree with e-brink's ideas. As far as the tree trunks, i would just pick something from another tree. There are some free tree trunk mats for Vue that fix some of the problems with the default textures. Really strong composition. In the atmo editor, try going up on the aerial perspective a bit and adding some haze in the distance. BTW, the new DAZ plugin for Look At My Hair has a preset for the DAZ Gorilla that you can export as obj and import to Vue that would add a lot to the realism.
