Life so dear
New to this world
Of white coats
And people hustling

Joy all round
While newborns cry
Exercising a right to breathe
Strong and unrestrained

It so happened
That in this room
Life had a twist for us
No mercy no hope
Nowhere to turn

The clock ticked
And paced away
Parents scared to death
Grandpa praying silently

Eighteen fuckin hours
And people faced each other
Decisions to be made
Which will end a life

Struggling to breath
Heart slow to keep up
With demands of life
To stay abreast

Questions asked
And papers signed
And the mere flick
Of a switch started it all

How unfair it be
To end a life by
Cutting, that which
Keep alive

He held his child
In the silence left
By machines now lifeless
Standing without purpose

Little fingers clutched
Around his index finger
Holding onto this life
Slowly leaving us

So the hours passed away
And nobody said a word
Except the cries from
Deep within unheard

Years pass slow...

Scars heal not fast
And pain will stay
But new life heals
All but the memories

Now i beg you to listen good:
Life is precious
My dear friend
Take care of the ones
Within your reach...

Let us in the meantime then take care of the ones within our reach!

So beautifully written, these words that express your deepest feelings about something so heartwrenchingly sad ... may this help you in healing this pain, and sharing with people who care. God bless you and your family.

So powerful and sad...and so eloquently expressed! Aside from that I'm speechless on this one (and we both know that doesn't happen often).

I am at a loss for words... but you've written so much. I believe it poured out, perhaps without warning, or maybe you were then ready to put them down on paper. Thank you for allowing all of us to view them! Memories last forever - well past the appropriate image with all the dust & cobwebs to enhance the moment. Very well done, Piet.

Some things are never forgotten, nor should they be. What seems to be the "right" thing to do is not an easy decision and you will always wonder, "what if?". Beautifully written and the image is deeply moving.
