This week features a weary, battle scarred mother just beyond the prime of her life. She had numerous open wounds on her side and it was also evident she was suckling, her cubs hidden out of sight. She is as vigilant and dangerous as can be despite her exhausted appearance. Sitting in the bush watching animals reveals many a story to the keen and watchful eye. I hope you enjoyed looking at this proud lioness.

She may well look weary Piet, but I wouldn't want to try and out run her. I wouldn't want to be sat out in the bush without some serious protection either.

Superb close up.

Bravo Piet a fine shot of this old girl who still has the glow in her eyes.. You are absolutely correct about observation and she looks concerned as she calls her cubs

Awwwww poor Mama....she is a beautiful animal though and at least she wasn't hurt so bad or worse, killed, so that she can still suckle her young. excellent capture.

What a great photo of a brave mom. I hope she recovered well from her wounds. I love the way her ears and chin whiskers peek out of the inner frame.
