Subject: Texture Transformer supported figures.

lkendall ( ) posted Wed, 04 February 2015 at 2:54 PM · edited Sun, 14 April 2024 at 10:54 PM

Is there any projected timeline on when more figures will be supported, and which they will be. The figure support is not wide enough to warrant the purchase yet. Knowing more on this would make a difference.

 Hello lkendall,

We are currently working on import and export of FBX files for Blacksmith3D, so there isn't a plan to add more figures right now. However, we are open to suggestions on what figures you would like to see supported so when we're ready to add additional figures we have a good understand of what is most meaningful to our customers.

I just want to make sure you know that the Texture Transformer currently supports V4 to Dawn, V4 to Roxie and V4 to Genesis 2 females, since some users had missed some of our notifications. Also, I understand how you feel three figure conversions may not seem worth it at full price, but Texture Transformer is currently on sale at 50% off. Hopefully, knowing that might make it more worthwhile for you.

Best Regards

 Blacksmith3D:

Dissapointing. At his point the product is too limited for the cost, even discounted.

There are probably more textures available for V4 than any other figure, and Daven, Roxie, and G2 females are good choices. I would like to see Antonia supported also.

M4 probably has the most textures for a male figure, and not having male conversions is a serious limitation. I would suggest conversion to Dusk, Ryan, G2 male, and Apollo.

Seeing that figure support is not a priority, if there is a method that others could use to make figure support, I would suggest that it be provided. There are a number of people in the poser community who could make and market figure support if they have the resiurces to do so.

If you are not going to support the product, you should at least rewrite your description and remove the with more transformations planned for the future line.  Otherwise, people might think it is an active product.  I might as well have lit the money I spent on this product on fire.

Would really like to see a M4 to Dusk add-on to Texture Transformer. :) M4 to V4 using TC2 & then V4 to Dawn via Texture Transformer & then applied to Dusk, creates to much texture stretching & degradation.

Please, is there any possibility or way that the specifications, information, and/or tools (necessary to add figure support to Texture Transformer) could be made available? There are people who could do a good job of adding figure support, but they do not have the resources to do so.

If blacksmith3d was smart, he would take note of the UV stunt DAZ has pulled with the genesis 2 line (each of those base figures (Aiko 6, Mei Lin 6, Olimpia 6, Gianni 6, etc) has a different UV set).  As an example, you apparently can't put a Mei Lin 6 texture on Aiko 6.  Pretty slick - it forces the DS user to spend about 400 dollars (minimum) to use all of the genesis 2 characters.

He'd probably make a lot of money providing DS users the ability to share skin textures between genesis 2 female figures.  Probably more than FBX import/export in Blacksmith Studio 3D is going to bring in.

As far as figure modules - my vote is for the SM gen 2 figures (Sydney, Simon, James, Koji, Kelvin, Olivia, Jessi, Simon & Miki 2)

Online Now!

In DS there is a drop down menu for UV mapping for the Genesis2 figures. If you purchase Aiko 6 or any other figure based on the Genesis 2 female, which comes with a different UV mapping, that UV mapping option is added to the drop down list.

If you want to use a texture map designed for a different G2F based figure you select the appropriate UV mapping from the drop down, and it works fine.

I will not use DS. I use Poser. There is no discussion on this point. So, DS solves no problems for me and offers me nothing. There are thousands who have made the same decision.

I do not use any software that requires FBX. That feature is not a priority for me, and I am to going to spend money on it. Others clearly will, hence Blacksmith3D is working on FBX import and export. At this point, I find nothing of interest in their product line, because none of it offers anything I can use.

I do not own Aiko 6 and I do not want to. At this point there is no reason to buy an Aiko 6 texture (no matter the quality or value) to use on the Genesis 2 female or any other figure. I would spend money on a utility that would let me convert or apply textures to figures I will buy. This is a business opportunity.

Supporting Poser is like supporting MAC. The OS will do anything Windows will. A programmer must put the effort into a project to write something that WORKS in MAC's OS. Apple is not going to rewrite the OS to cater to any programmers, and MAC users will pay good money for software that doesn't make them run an OS they don't want to use.

Apparently, I wasn't clear enough - to put a Mei Lin 6 texture on Aiko 6 requires me to own both Mei Lin 6 & Aiko 6 products @ $31.00 ea (including PC discount). That significantly drives up the cost of the figure.

I was just about to upgrade v5 Pro to v6 Pro when I read this thread and discovered that M4/M5/M6 aren't supported.  Is this actually true?  Why would anyone who uses DAZ Studio, like myself, upgrade Blacksmith 3D if it still doesn't support any of the Mikes? Forgive me if I've got the wrong end of the stick but does this mean I can't alter/create M6 skins or morph this male figure in BS3D?

lkendall ( ) posted Thu, 12 February 2015 at 10:58 AM · edited Thu, 12 February 2015 at 11:04 AM

This thread is about Texture Transformer, a texture conversion utility. It is not about Blacksmith3D Pro 6.xxx. Texture Transformer is a utility included with Blacksmith3D Pro 6.xxx, but the figure suport for that utility is limited, I don't know about limitations for the Blacksmith application. Developing additional figure support is time consuming and difficult. Blacksmith has other priorities at the moment.

Blacksmith follows this forum, and is usually prompt in giving answers. If you have questions, ask them here. He has been answering posts about BS3D 6 beta in the very first thread of this forum for the last few days.

Blacksmith3D is VERY different than the Texture Transformer that is being discussed here. In B3D, ANY obj, cr2, base figure .duf (which is new to version 6), and .fbx files (also new to version 6.0.4.0) are supported. This includes M4, any of the 5th generation males as the original genesis male, any of the generation 6 males, Dusk, any of the default Poser figures and any other figure (male or female) where you have a obj, cr2, duf or fbx file. You can alter any of these skin textures in B3D.

Texture Transformer is a program (stand alone and included in the PRO version) that automatically coverts V4 textures to Dawn, Roxie or Genesis 2 females.

You are STILL able to make and alter existing skin textures manually in the B3D software.

Oh, I see we must have been typing our responses at the same time.   We are working to resolve some issues that were found the in 6.0.4.0 beta. Once we have got these issues completely wrapped up with a good solid running update (maybe a few weeks), we can talk about whether there are ways to get user participation to help bring more figure support to Texture Transformer. I think there might be something we can do, if there are users willing to help. Basically, the morphing tools are already in B3D to line up M4 and whatever other male figure you want to convert to. Lining up the meshes is very time consuming, but once that's done, we can then send the project file to the programmer to then work on coding that conversion into the Texture Transformer software.

Does this mean I should return to 6.0.2.0 as I cannot register 6.0.4.0 and make export or save work? Is this one of the maybe few weeks issues?

Blacksmith3D ( ) posted Thu, 12 February 2015 at 1:11 PM

pruiz, the issue you have with registration appears to be unique to your system. We have not been able to duplicate your issue nor have had any other reports of registration issues.  Please keep in mind that 6.0.4.0 is a BETA, so for a good, solid version we do recommend the 6.0.2.0 version. Please stay on topic with this thread Subject "Texture Transformer supported figures"  and start a new thread with an appropriate subject for different topics.

Ok, thanks for the replies.  Now I understand and will upgrade but I'm still very keen to have automatic conversion of the M4/5/6 skins if possible.

Spectralis ( ) posted Thu, 12 February 2015 at 8:13 PM

I tried the Blacksmith3D 6 demo but couldn't load Michael 6 DUF.  Michael 5 DUF loaded fine but not M6 for some reason.  None of the Gen 2 figures I tried would load.  Is this a known issue?  Couldn't find a way to post this in the Blacksmith3D 6 announcement thread.

Blacksmith3D ( ) posted Fri, 13 February 2015 at 2:01 PM

M6 is not a stand alone figure, it is just morphs for the Genesis 2 male. I'm not very familiar with DS, and I don't have m6 yet to test with but I think you load gen2 male, load the m6 morphs and export that from DS as a cr2 and import into B3D with morphs.

Well, you're wrong there---you can share skins between the characters if the vendor is using the Genesis 2 Female UV map. I don't know many that aren't at this point.
I can put my Parisa character on Mei Lin, V6 Stephanie 6...doesn't matter because she's using the base UV maps. So...your texture slinger has to be using them to make it work.

If your vendor is using the UV character maps, then you need to take it up with them.

Thanks for the upgrade. I would also like the ability inside of Blacksmith 6 to create additional templates for Texture Transformer.
