Attached Link: BornCG (cgboorman)

BornCG (cgboorman) Has a great set of tuts on YouTube. Should get you going.

Have you ever used another Modeling program?

Theres this?  http://cgcookie.com/blender/category/getting-started/

Not sure what you tried...

One thing to remember: Blender's select mouse click is the right-mouse-button, which is weird and counter-intuitive and I can't do it... too weird for me, so I changed it to left-mouse, which isn't recommended but oh-well. Also, be sure you're in edge mode - those 3 little icons at the bottom of the view window.

I do agree with 3DOutlaw: the BlenderCookie tutes are really good... so good that I went and got a membership, which is a pittance and the quality of what you learn makes all the difference.

And welcome!!! Enjoy the ride - at first it's a bit bouncy, and it never really gets totally smooth only because this program is in such a state of flux... so much happening, so many features being added, it's quite...

...insane!

For example: here's something I'm working on... exporting Poser scenes to Blender to render in Cycles. An issue that has arisen: well, it's that transmapped hair thing. Get geometry too close and you get this shadow, as you can see here, in the case of the skullcap.

I third CGCookie as a good starting point.

Be patient with Blender and you will be rewarded. I was one of many who tried Blender over the years and got totally frustrated with it. Version 2.5 and since has been a real watershed, giving even the big boys a run for their money. For hobbyists and freelancers, it's difficult to look past Blender for modeling and animation tasks.

To select vertices, edges, and faces you have to be in edit mode. Hitting tab will take you in and out of edit mode. You can choose what to select by on the bottom tool bar.

Some other stuff: The keypad has some very usefu; stuff. The "." will zoom and center rotation on what ever you have selected. 1,3,7 will center on the x,y,z  view and using the control key will show the -x,-y,-z. The 5 key will togle perspective/ortho.

Another thing: while your modeling a great many relavent command can be found by hitting the space bar,now select the edit mesh tools. under this menu you will find menus for edges, vertices and faces. So if you aer trying to manipulate any of theese elements this where you can find most of what you need.

Also you should make sure all the addons are on because they add a lot of functions. Or arleast the useful ones.

Hope this made sense. Youtube is a good place to see some tuts and faster that reading tuts.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I have done a little modling before every program has its own learning curve and none seem to go in the same direction. I was trying a BornCG (cgboorman) one last night when I was having all the problems. I'll check out the ones at cgcookie hopefully today. Thanks again.

don't feel to bad...

I've been modeling since the mid 90's. POVray, trueSpace 1-2-3-4 (4.3 was my main modeling app until late 2010.. I could'nt get used to 5 6 or 7) , Sketchup (now my main modeling app), some Wings, Hexagon (I would have used this, but it's huge crashing issues has relegated it to a backup only), Lightwave and 3DStudio R4.... and so far I've not managed to get my head round how blender does anything.

here goes another try...

ive been running blender since pretty much day 1 and i still tell people to start at step 1

you cannot open it for the first time and expect to be a master

after a few years there are still things i do not know how to do perfectly but i have found what is comfortable for me

if i knew what you are tring to do i could walk you through it most likely or id learn to do it and then give you the info

blendercookie is one of the best places to learn that i have ever found and i whole heartedly suggest there first but different people learn in different ways

I am on my third version of Blender and I still can only import clothing props I made in Wings to use Blender's Shrinkwrap and Smooth modifiers, then export them out.

Beyond that I am still lost. But I don't spend enough time with it to get proficient. Once I decide I am going to learn it properly, I am pretty sure I can get my head around it.

If I had a nickle for ever time a woman told me to get lost, I could buy Manhattan.

You're in for some real fun, Rokket. I only ever used Blender for modelling in the past (even until recently), and whilst that remains a strong point because of the great features Blender has, its material/Cycles stuff is quickly eclipsing the modelling end of things, well, for me at least. What one can create with nodes already is mind-boggling... and we're only just beginning.

I can also recommend vscorpianc's channel on youtube. Learn a little bit at a time and keep trying. Blender has awesome power, you can play in a corner of it - you don't need to learn everything at once.
