Subject: O.T.; Free legit Adobe products?

Quest ( ) posted Fri, 11 January 2013 at 5:39 PM · edited Thu, 18 April 2024 at 3:37 AM

Just got my CGSociety January Newsletter and in it they have this thread directing you to this page:

http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?t=1087583&utm_source=CGSociety+Newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=CGSNL%232Jan2013&utm_content=ang-c%40earthlink.net

There they have a link directing you to an Adobe site:

Edited to remove link
Here they have a list of older Adobe products to download which include:

Creative Suite 2
Acrobat 3D 1.0
Acrobat Standard 7.0
Audition 3.0
GoLive CS2
Illustrator CS2
InCopy CS2
InDesign CS2
Photoshop CS2
Photoshop Elements 4.0/5.0
Adobe premiere Pro 2.0

And the serial numbers for both Mac & Windows versions.

Don't know what's going on but some say it was a big mistake and someone will be fired for it and others say it's an attempt to close down open source software like GIMP. I have no clue what the deal is but it's worth a look.

Sounds like a great deal...some may say; "Too good to be true". I've downloaded a couple items but have yet to install them so I don't know if they even work. Thought I'd pass this on to you guys and gals and if you find anything out, please let the rest of us know.

I know that Photoshop Elements 4 only runs on Windows XP because I have that on CD and it won't run on my Windows 7 PC or my son's Vista PC.  A lot of those other ones might be the same way.

Can I read notes?  Hell, there ain't no notes to a banjo. You just play it.

Not even in XP compatibility mode?

I don't know, I threw out the CD before I ever thought to try it.

But I just installed Elements 5 and and Acrobat Pro 8, and they work on Win 7

So Wheatpenny you're saying that you've downloaded these progs and they are working on your system? Gosh, I wish I had more time here to install these and see what's going on. Obviously it's a legal site and even if they are older programs, they certainly do serve a purpose.

Wish I had more insight to this.

Yep, they work fine.

I suspect Adobe might be giving them away to get people "hooked" in the hope that they'll buy the current versions.

Attached Link: http://www.forbes.com/sites/adriankingsleyhughes/2013/01/07/download-adobe-cs2-applications-for-free/

Forum moderator Danny_Gordon has posted this link over in the Bryce forum. The link from Forbes quotes Dov Isaacs as saying;

"Adobe is terminating the activation servers for CS2 and that for existing licensed users of CS2 who need to reinstall their software, copies of CS2 that don’t require activation but do require valid serial numbers are available."

 It continues to say that;

"You are only legally entitled to download and install with that serial number *if *you have a valid license to the product

Sorry folks some questions have been answered and I guess the party is over.

But AgentSmith has provided a link to Dogwaffle 5.0 which is a free and legal download.

I edited the op to remove the link since it's not actually a free offer.

I think it's up to Adobe to remove the link since it's their product and they're not explaining their intentions which in truth still is not known except through 3rd party removed types. There could be an underlying marketing reason to push their products as some have suggested. Otherwise, why wouldn't they after all this time established a private sign-in page for all those customers that own the appropriate licenses? I see no reason for resulting fallout censorship...just my thought and all is good.

Right now, adobe is sending mixed messages. Some of their support people are saying it's OK to download, but their official statement is that it's not.

Until they make up their minds I'm going under the assumption that their official statement is correct.
