Been away for a while and right off the bat I'd like to say thanks to UVdan and EHNisja for the welcome back.  EHNisja's recent post of his amazing celtic pendant got me scrabbling through the archives looking for some hints and tutorials on how to emulate his work and this is my first attempt.

Not sure what it is exactly, let's call it abstract.  I need lots more practice but seeing as I haven't posted any designs for a long time I thought I'd share this with you.

EHNisja, thank you so much for your help.

Nexxus, you're welcome.  I'm glad that my previous postings and tutorials were able to help you out to create this fine ring.

One more point that I don't think that I mentioned before and that is that the "thickness" of the band shouldn't be much more than 2mm, much more and the ring is not comfortable to wear.

Your next step should be to see if it is "printable". To do that just stop over to Shapeways.com and upload the model. They will get back to you via Emails with the results of their preliminary tests of the model and you can then find out the cost of "making it real".  They have over 25 different materials that can be used to make the model. My favorite is the polished sterling silver, a bit pricey but well worth it.

Can we see some more images of your ring?

Thanks for the comments gents :)

Decided to go back to the drawing board because, as I said, I needed some more practice and also, the whole design was just to chunky for my liking.  I wanted something more delicate (I'm not sure if that's the right word really but it'll have to do)

This is the Celtic ring Mk II and I'm much happier with this version.  I took a look at Shapeways but unfortunatley there are two obstacles.  The fact the the Euro to ZAR exchange rate is around R11 at the moment and the fact that I would then need to get the ring back to South Africa which from past experience with other imports is extremely costly.  I do have a friend who has abusiness making broaches and such with lazer cut wood and perspex (or something similar I think) and I'm going to find out the details from her regarding who does her manufacturing so hopefully there will be a South African connection.  I'll keep you guys posted if I get lucky.

I think that you're on to something great with this second design of yours.

One thing that Shapeways offers is a "store front" that will allow for the sale of your pieces (even if you can't afford one for yourself) with a profit to you for the use of your design. Something to look into ...

Gents, it seems I must relay my thanks to you once again :)

I am now the proud owner of a Shapeways store.  Please feel free to check it out at http://www.shapeways.com/shops/cyberglowstudios.

Now what does that word marketing mean???

Thank you so much for your advice and support, it really means a lot and made me realise how much I have missed all at the forum.  Will be posting many new goodies soon!

Looks great Nexxus.

Maybe it's time someone started a 3D printing business in SA?
