 new to animation

Hi all.

I'm working on a storyboard to animate, hoping
to get a certain affect but flexible how to
get there. Basically would like to use open-source
online film clips mixed with 3D animation, a mixture
of smooth film with stop-action sequences, photo-
stills and illumined heroic-comics.

I have artistic background (drawing/painting),
used to work in an animation-factory, painting
cells in the old days(!) Fairly handy with
computers but zero animation software experience!

Now I know what I'd like to achieve is quite
ambitious, but I'm looking for FREEWARE that will
let me cut, paste, splice & convert files. I've
managed to collect some programs, such as Blender
and OpenFX with a handful of other converter
utilities. Was wondering if any of you have suggestions of others or where to begin. Thank
you!
