 G2F and G2M Head and Body Evolution Morphs: delta comparison.

DavidGB suggested here (url=http://www.daz3d.com/forums/viewreply/484944/) a way to compare G2M and G2F morph deltas by looking at them in the text editor. I decided to check and see how many of original deltas are actually in each pack. It took me about a day @_@

Conditions of the test:
For the purpose of comparison, I only compared morphs with some actual delta (vertex distance difference between base shape and a final morphed shape), not control (CTRL), scaling (SCL), or alias files, and if morph is a mix of control and delta, I compared deltas only; although in some cases I also noted similarities in "formulas"  where I suppose the bone rig adjustments are.

I've used Bred3 editor which allows easy comparison of parsed data by method of 100% aligning of related sample blocks in two separate windows, ovelapping with precision: by quickly switching between two perfectly aligned windows a couple of times the difference in delta, if any, becomes visually obvious. Bred3 also allows to move a page down with precision by the same amount of lines, so if after hitting page down same amount of times for both files data lines still align by the first number (such as [ 18450,) I can be sure I didn't miss any additional in-between lines.

Each G2M morph delta is sampled in 3-4 places (2, if very small) in blocks of about 40-50 lines each against morph delta of the file with the same name in G2F morphs. Deltas are considered to be the same only if _all_ of those 3-4 samples are the same, digit to digit.

Places of the comparison are chosen from the approximate beginning, the approximate middle and the approximate end of the delta block at random.

Compressed morphs are decompressed by adding the .zip extension to dsf file and unzipping the file with PeaZip as if it was a regular archive.
There was no any transfer done between figures. There were no files resaved in any way. With exception of decompressing, those files are exactly the same files I've got from the store. G2F morphs and essentials weren't updated since about five months ago, so what I have is more or less what I got from the store at the first download. G2M morphs are brand new, bought and installed on Thursday, I believe.

As usual I don't claim to be 100% right in everything and I welcome corrections if you tested something on your own and saw a different results.

I need also to note that sometimes morph is a complex thing, which deltas is only a part of, but for the purpose of this test, I only compared deltas.

Total 9 out of 162 tested morphs (5.56%) in G2F and G2M face morph packs have unique deltas, the rest of deltas are the same for G2M and G2F version. The rest are 32 files in the package are CTRL files, which I didn't compare.

All tested morphs have the same names, there were no unique morphs (with deltas) in any of G2F or G2M Head Morphs packages.

Summary: I'm finding that the majority of morphs in both head and body packs for both figures have the same deltas. Of course, morph appearance and functionality in TriaX figures isn't strictly tied to deltas only, like it was in Generation 4, and although a lot of morphs I tested function without any scale, control or alias connections I could discover, not all of them do (some morphs have same deltas but slightly different rigging adjustments, for example).

The same deltas in such face morphs as FaceYoung, FaceHeartL/R, JawAngle, JawHeight and in such body morphs as FBMThin, FBMFitnessDetails and AreolaeDiameter gave me a theory (and nothing more than a theory) that those morphs were developed on some unisex figure than than only linked to female and male figures respectively, carried over without any delta change.

To explain why I think that: morphs such as AreolaeDiameter are very gender-dependent, as breasts and pectorals on female and male figures shaped very differently. Same goes for Thin morph and FitnessDetails that affect the whole body and FaceYoung that affect parts that are shaped into prominently male and female appearance. Be it natively shaped morph for each figure, or even a morph transferred from G2F via some process and adjusted to G2M shape, the deltas coudn't be that very same on such large swats of compared data (again, I compared samples to a digit on a 2-4 blocks of about 45 lines each block for each tested morph).

So maybe there is a Genesis 2 unisex figure, that majority of morphs are made for, I don't know - all I have is a theory why so many deltas look so very same on male and female figures as I don't know any other way to make a morph with same deltas than just to carry that delta over from some unisex one.

This test wasn't done with a purpose to start any heated discussion about originality and effectiveness of G2F and G2M figures. I'm leaving all applicability of this test or whatever somebody should buy G2F/G2M morphs or not to the viewer.

But I think that buyers should be able to make an informed decision on what they are actually buying and what comes with each package, - this is why I decided to share the results of my testing. Hope you will find them useful :)

I like new DAZ3D forums. I really do. Once I turned away signatures it started to be harder to recognize an initial poster without specifically looking at his/her name tag. In that sense I feel there is less bias, the avatar-signature-postcount barcode doesn't interfear (due to absence) with what the post actually about. In that state I'm finding that people I knew aren't people I know and due to lack of visual identifications I'm taking all posts in much less pre-defined way, there is no initial, reflexive dismissal or acception. It is hard to explain but I'm starting to think that forums have their own version of "halo effect", only based not on good looks but on previous experience, and people might have been inclined to have initial emotional reaction (that is of dismissal or acceptance) to the post before reading it to the end which had been based on quicker-to-perceive graphic avatar-signature. Hooray for so-far empty ignore list.

I'm also finding it strange, on an emoional level, to understand why some people mourn postcount and attach that useless number to their new clean slate. What sort of significance that number holds I can't fathom. Personally I found status zero to be refreshing, because if at least one out of thousand of previous posts would actually change somebody's life for better it would be something to be proud about. New forums is not at same level of years accumulated spite, not yet. And also when I see all those little shiveled peas of past more like with a question "if you could save just 10 of your previous posts, which ones out of your thousands they would be?"

 Collecting the puzzle

I finally realized what is so attractive about Danie/marforno/Abraham items: is that they feel like they belong to some big and fantastic place that we can only see some parts of. This place obvisouly an abandoned city, preserved in mint conditions, for there is no trash of streets, but in a past it was a blooming place, probably conquered several times by people of different countries. Sort of like Byzantium, only with steam robots and time travel. It has poor quarter, extensive rich and religious quarters, and common quarters that we haven't seen yet.

Antfarm's items have a similar feeling but I think in his case it is intentional. Here the unity is created probably just by using same textures over and over again.

I always liked 1971s images. There was some aerial unboundness in those that along with a simple absense of people gave them a sense of freedom. It was something to look forward and up for. A dream of flight.

But since those models appeared in store I never know if those pictures are truly about freedom and flight anymore, or about a new model hitting the shelves.

Tired of forum bickerings. Neverending Poser vs. DS, poison everywhere, raising prices, dishonest promotions, changes - bad or good - you can't do anything about, tech too complex to grab and too simple to be exited about. My poserverse is becoming dark place, where empty vast spaces lie behind a bright dancing facade of new releases. Like a carnival, only with tired silence of mannequin cheerleaders instead of creepy clowns.

Posession becomes self-purpose, an attempt to spark the previous passion.

All ideas feel worn-out. There is nothing new. There is nothing beautiful.

Burnout.

My verse is burning this autumn into ashes.
