Mar 02, 2014 at 12:00 am by Store Staff

File1310.jpgEach month the Renderosity community votes on the Renderosity Artist Of The Month [AOM] ... March's AOM is orbital!

We congratulate orbital for an outstanding collection of works in the Bryce Gallery!

Tell us a bit about yourself. Who is 'orbital' ?

orbital is Joe Vinton, 39 yrs old living in Burton on Trent in the UK.

How long now have you been creating art?

I started using Bryce back in 2002 and have progressed from there.

Do you have any formal art education?

None other than at high school. I was average at best when it came to art, so if you asked me to draw anything I could manage a stickman or two. That's what's good about creating art digitally, you can delete your mistakes.

What are you currently working on?

In May, I'm going to attend the National Space Symposium in Colorado Springs. Each year they have artwork submitted by a select group of artists and this is used as a backdrop to the event. A couple of years back I submitted the image "This place called Earth," which was chosen for this year, so I'm just trying to get some fresh ideas together as a showcase as there are potentially some great contacts to be made within the space industry.

Who, or what, inspires you?

Many things, really. Films, music, and nature are the obvious ones. There are many artists over the years that I've seen on Renderosity and the web that have inspired me to be creative.

What do you enjoy most about Bryce?

It's capable of creating many forms of art and not just landscapes, as it was originally designed for. Through the imagination of many Bryce users over the years you can just about make anything you want.

Orion

What do you think your best piece of work is and why?

Tough one, really. I would have to say "Orion," as I was really pleased with the way the image worked out and I mastered some techniques finally in the process. Looking at it now, though, the texturing could do with changing as everything uses the same texture which annoys me.

Do you have any tips you would be willing to share about Bryce?

I would say that making your own models with Bryce really helps with the process of learning the programme. Also it makes your image original.

Where dreams are made

How has this online community (Renderosity) enhanced your work, relationships, and learning?

Well, it's always been a helpful place. People will always try to solve a problem if you have one. The Bryce forum at its height was full of people sharing techniques and models, so it really helped me progress.

Do you have any parting comments, or advice for other artists?

Just thank you for those who voted for me and to everyone over the years who've commented on my work.

Artist of the Month is highlighting a talented Renderosity artist that has been nominated by mods and admins, and voted by the community. Recognition is given to this member for their collection of works for that year.

Since we only select one AOM per month, it is not about their works for that particular month. Instead, it is about highlighting a talented artist's works for that year, and they are recognized during that month.
