June 2007 Vendor of the Month - rebelmommy

May 31, 2007 at 11:10 pm by Store Staff

Who is rebelmommy?
One shocked woman at the moment.  Thank you for this wonderful honor!  Lets see, my name is Amy, I am 32 (Yikes) and am a mom, wife and Poser addict.  I have 4 girls and 1 boy ranging in age from 13 to 18 months.  I am an avid reader and will read just about any book I can get my hands on:)  I live on the Southern East coast of Florida (USA)

How long have you have you been involved in digital art?
Since Late 2003 when I discovered Poser and realized that I loved being able to create my own art that didn’t require me to have paints, pens and pencils out where the kids could get them. :)  I finally tried my hand at my characters in early 2006 and have been hopelessly addicted ever since ;)

What are you currently working on?
Really at the moment I am putting every spare moment into learning to model clothing and such.. though I am admittedly a LOOOONNG way from creating anything worthy of even a freebie.  But usually I have 4 or 5 projects on the burners at any one time so to speak.

What software do you use and why?
My current choices for my projects are Poser 7 for rendering, ZBrush  for the actual creation of the character morph and Paint Shop Pro 9.  I think the reason I use these specific programs is that they are comfortable for me, I am a Paint Shop Pro user from way back and though have tried PhotoShop I just always come back to Paint Shop Pro.  It’s the same with ZBrush.. it is what I learned to do the character morphs in so it’s comfortable for me now.

Where do you find inspiration for your products?
I find inspiration everywhere... shopping malls, the beaches, my children and their friends.  All to often I find myself watching people and thinking to myself what character base their faces would look best on, I get a strange look or two on occasion but really I find that people have amazing faces and give me a great deal of inspiration.

Do you have any advice for aspiring Digital Content Developers?
Don’t give up EVER!!  If you don’t succeed right away don’t be afraid to ask questions or move beyond your comfort zone.  The only way to grow in your craft is to constantly try to better it or to learn something new.  And lastly do what you LOVE

How has this online Community (Renderosity) enhanced your work, relationships, and learning?
When I first came to Renderosity in 2004 I had no idea what to expect, but found a group of people who are generally warm and friendly and willing to give you help and an unlimited amount of advice if you ask for it.  When I posted my first image in the gallery I had not expected the response I got, People gave me wonderful advice on lighting and camera angles and really overall helped me improve my images 10 fold.
When I wanted to learn to create my own custom character morphs I was hesitant to ask anyone for help as I wasn’t sure they would want to share their knowledge with me but I did and found that the community was very helpful in giving me tips and advice (thank you Gabe and Thorne)   I have made a lot of great friends here, learned a lot about 3d and art in general and  and am always amazed at the wealth of information that is available here through the community, the forums and the tutorials.

Do you have any final words?
Thank you so very much for this honor, for giving me the opportunity to create things that I love and to show them to you.  Thank you to all of you who have helped me not give up over the years (even when I really REALLY wanted to) and to all of you who have offered me advice when I needed it, And to my customers THANK YOU!  Thank you for allowing me to share with you a piece of myself.
