file_505440.jpgEach month the Renderosity community votes on the Renderosity Artist Of The Month [AOM] ... July's AOM is EyeOfTheBeholder!

We congratulate EyeOfTheBeholder for an outstanding collection of works in the Terragen Gallery!

Tell us a bit about yourself. Who is 'EyeOfTheBeholder' ?

Firstly, I would like to say how delighted and honored I am to have been selected as Artist of the month for July, and would like to thank the Renderosity staff for nominating me, and a huge thank you to all those who voted for me.

My name is Paul, and I live in a small rural village in North Wales. I currently work for the highways dept of my local authority, but am retiring in 3 weeks time. One of my hobbies is mountaineering, so I spend a lot of time in the Snowdonia national park, which is only an hour's drive away, as well as the Lake district and the Scottish highlands. I have also climbed in the Alps and the Dolomites. I  have a passion for music, the piano being my main instrument, but I also play flute and classical guitar.

How long have you been creating art?

I had dabbled in oil painting and watercolours on and off over the years, but it wasn't until I downloaded a free version of Terragen classic that I became aware of the potential of digital art. I have subsequently bought all the later versions and am now using Terragen 3.

Do you have any formal art education?

I do not have any formal art education.

What are you currently working on?

I am currently working on my next Terragen mountainscape.

Who, or what, inspires you?

Most of my inspiration comes from the mountain landscapes in which I spend so much of my time. The ever changing light, shapes and textures never cease to amaze and delight. I am also inspired by the amazing work and imagination of fellow artists here at Renderosity.

What do you enjoy most about Terragen?

The thing which I like about programs such as Terragen, is that I have total control over every aspect of the work. This allows me to create my ideal mountains, under any lighting and atmospheric conditions imaginable, as well as being able to use dem files to play around with existing landscapes.

Do you have any tips you would be willing to share on using Terragen?

A lot of people seem to be deterred from using Terragen because of its apparent compexity, but it should be stressed that it is possible to produce some excellent work just by using the default settings. The camera movement and lighting methods are some of the easiest I have encountered in programs such as these and can be mastered fairly quickly. I think one of the most important aspects to learn initially, is how to use the shader system, which allows you to lay the various colors on the terrain, and there are some good tutorials available online.

How has this online community (Renderosity) enhanced your work, relationships, and learning?

Being a member of Renderosity has given me the oportunity to view the wealth of artwork being produced by fellow members. These works are both inspirational and educational, as one can see the potential of the various programs being used with such imagination and skill. Also, it allows for constructive criticism, which is always welcome, as are the complimentary comments.

Artist of the Month is highlighting a talented Renderosity artist that has been nominated by mods and admins, and voted by the community. Recognition is given to this member for their collection of works for that year.

Since we only select one AOM per month, it is not about their works for that particular month. Instead, it is about highlighting a talented artist's works for that year, and they are recognized during that month.
