file_483280.jpgEach month the Renderosity community votes on the Renderosity Artist Of The Month [AOM] ... July's AOM is AndyWelder!

We congratulate Andy for an outstanding collection of works in the Terragen Gallery!

Who is 'AndyWelder'?

A husband, father, part-time systems administrator and Terragen addict. He was a cabinet maker and international exhibition builder.

How long have you been working in digital art?

It all began when I discovered Terragen, must have been '98,'99, but it wasn't till I discovered this community that things got serious. It took months of visiting the galleries and the Terragen forum before I dared to post my first render in 2003.

What are you currently working on?

On an entry for the Terragen 2 "The Coming Storm" Themed Challenge here at Renderosity. I hope I get it finished in time, because of persistent computer problems. Also, I'm working on a tutorial on working with objects and populations in Terragen 2.

What all is in your digital toolset and why?

Terragen Classic, Terragen 2, The Gimp for image adjustments and for creating masks, Arbaro for creating vegetation that fits my needs, and PoseRay for adjusting and converting objects. Also, I still use GeoControl1 to create terrains for Terragen Classic.

What resources would you suggest for new Terragen users to check out?

The Planetside Forums (from the creators of Terragen) are my #1 resource for anything on Terragen.

What do you think your best piece of work is and why?

At the moment, I'd say "Fern Gully Crossroads," because all elements come together so well.

Entropy 2
A tribute to the master of surrealism, Salvador Dali, and the Dutch magic-realist painter Carel Willink;
both did influence me a lot.

Who, or what, inspires you?

The spark can come from anything: a piece of music, the departure of a dear friend or pet, the weather, or a dream... The elements used in the image I find close to home: The daily bike ride from home to work, the view over the roof tops and surrounding gardens when hanging out laundry to dry. Also, I'm a big fan of The Discovery Channel and NatGeo and those BBC documentaries on nature.

What do you enjoy most about Terragen?

It allows me to create any kind of landscape I can think of, be it "realistic" or "surrealistic," and the fact it has a small but very productive community that's willing to share.

Sparked by a Rammstein song.

Do you have any tips you would be willing to share on using Terragen?

My answer to that question goes for all similar software: read the manual and visit forums and galleries as often as possible. And, if people have specific questions related to my images, they are welcome to ask.

How has this online community (Renderosity) enhanced your work, relationships, and learning?

Especially in the beginning with Classic Terragen, I received a lot of support and positive critics that gave me confidence and built the foundations of where I am today.

A Classic Terragen render, maybe not one of my best but very dear to me.

Artist of the Month is highlighting a talented Renderosity artist that has been nominated by mods and admins, and voted by the community. Recognition is given to this member for their collection of works for that year.

Since we only select one AOM per month, it is not about their works for that particular month. Instead, it is about highlighting a talented artist's works for that year, and they are recognized during that month.
