We congratulate vapo for an outstanding collection of works in the Mojoworld Gallery! Who is 'Lenord' and how did you come to use this name? Lenord is me. That's my real first name, so I guess you would have to say my mom and dad gave it to me 60 years ago. I use my real name because I am not trying to be anything other than who I am...I am not a character in a Digital Fantasy. How long have you been working in digital art? Let's see...I joined Rendo in May of '06, so I started playing around with Photoshop only a couple of months before I joined here. Started off doing blends and manips just for fun, turning pics of my daughter and nieces into faeries and such stuff. Everything just progressed from there as I became more proficient and my interests in digital art grew. Renderosity had a lot to do with that. All the different applications and genres and the works I saw there were just fuel for a fire I didn't even know I had. Now, I'm hopelessly addicted to fractals and Mojoworld, as well as PhotoShop.
So, what is Mojoworld about and what drew you to it? Mojoworld is a planet building software package - it gives you complete control over building an entire planet from the ground up...or the heavens down, whichever way you want to look at it. You control everything using mathematical fractal bases to drive displacements to build everything from landforms to oceans and rivers, lakes and clouds...you can literally build the Heavens and Earth with MoJo. Even though it's a bit outdated now, it was, and in a lot of respects, still is one of the most complicated and advanced 3D landscaping (not exactly the right label, but it will do) software available.
Aside from Mojoworld, there is other work, like fractals in your gallery. So, what software is in your digital toolset, and do you combine any of it in your work? Fractals are my main area of interest. Fractals have fascinated me from the begining. Fractals lead me to MoJo, as it uses fractal bases integrally to generate most everything. I started using FractalExplorer first, then Apophysis and Incendia. The last year saw the discovery of a 3D implementation to the 2D Mandelbrot set with what is known as the Mandelbulb, and shortly thereafter, the Folded Mandelbox and the 3D navigating and rendering software being developed to explore it's amazing realms and turning it into mathematically generated art. My favorite program at this time is Mandelbulb3D, a small, but powerful 3D fractal explorer and raytrace rendering program built by Jesse of FractalForums.com. I use Mojoworld scenes a lot in the 3D fractals from MB3D as backgrounds, and have just started using MB3D fractals in the Bitmap node of MoJo for surface materials and, of course, I use PhotoShop, PhotoFiltre, Paint.net etc., as the finalizer for all my work. Are there any tips or tricks you would be willing to share with others using any of the software you use? In the words of the Doobie Brothers..."Don't you start me talking, I'll tell you everything I know." All you have to do is drop me a line and I am glad to answer any question and help any way I can. If I don't know, I can probably get an answer from some of the amazing people I have met here and other sites I frequent.
What do you think your best piece of work is and why? MoJoworld: Trinity Site. I had never done an image that was not just a stream of conciousness, so to speak, and this had to fit a theme: "A what if Event that changed History." IMHO, everything in the composition fit, even the stories scenario. It's my favorite MoJo and maybe my best, too. MB3D: Salacia's Secret. Everything worked perfect, POV, textures, global and positional lights, and the gradient. Do you have any traditional art experience? Yep, Crayons and coloring books... Oh yeah, and doing my own custom paint jobs on my Harley - she gets a facelift more often than Joan Rivers.
Who, or what, inspires you? Music, gotta have music. I can't live without music: Rock, Alternative, Metal...I don't care, as long as it ain't HipHop or Rap Crap. Speculative Fiction (SciFi) writings of the Grand Masters: Wells, Verne, Lovecraft, as well as the more current Harlan Ellison, Asimov, Nivens, Pournell and the incomparable art of H.R. Giger. Along the lines of peer inspiration is from the creator of MB3D, Jesse, a personable man who is willing to share his knowledge without hesitation. Master MoJo'er and ZBrush artist Jeff Hindmarsh (Jaybeeh), WoZ2002 of the MoJo gallery, as well as countless others I have met in my digital art travels. How has this online community (Renderosity) enhanced your work, relationships, and learning? Rendo was the first online art community I joined when I got the bug - it started me on the path I am now on with digital art. I left here at one time early on for 2 years as an Administrator at the now defunct SeventhComplex, where I learned the ins and outs of what it takes to run an art community. Besides a competent, energetic staff, a community needs a stable owner/management, which the Complex did not have, but all said and done Renderosity does. Sites come and go, but Renderosity is always here for all of us. I owe a lot to this community: learned more than I ever thought possible about computer generated art, made good and lasting friendships, and it's my first and last online stop every day... Although, I won't lie, I spend a lot of time at FractalForums too. I am, after all, a Fractaholic.
