This SIGGRAPH, I had the chance to meet part of the Animation Mentor crew. They are all amazing people who share your interests in one way or another. As a matter of fact, that's one of the things that I love about SIGGRAPH, the fact that you can meet all different kinds of people but they all share the same passion for something. I spent nearly an hour with Animation Mentor, interviewing Carlos Baena and Taylor Mahony, talking about the school, their goals and what happens behind the red curtain. I also realized there are no AM students from my country, which is a shame. I do hope that will change in the following years, though. Animation Mentor Student Showcase Summer 2008At their booth, the school was screening their Summer 2008 Student Showcase. The 6 minute reel shows some of the different projects students have worked on, regardless of the courses they're taking. This is actually very nice since you may be watching a completely finished shot and then the next sequence shows a funny bouncing ball jumping around. Carlos Baena My first interview was with Carlos Baena. We focused on how the school has evolved during these years, the webinars and the overall community. As you may know, the school has been running for around 4 years now, and it's interesting to hear how it has changed since then, especially in the words of one of the mentors. Animation Alley is a regular featured column with Renderosity Staff Columnist Sergio Rosa [nemirc]. Sergio discusses on computer graphics software, animation techniques, and technology. He also hosts interviews with professionals in the animation and cinematography fields. |
