In Memory of Patrick Roberts

It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of Patrick Roberts.

For those that did not know him, he was the Art Show Director for Dragon*Con for a number of years. He was the high energy man that made the Dragon*Con Art Show what it is today.

From Dragon*Con Art Show Directors, John and Anne Parise in an e-mail to the members of http://groups.yahoo.com/group/SciFiFantasyHorrorSpace_ArtShows/:

"Please remember Patrick and his family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. Patrick has been a driving force for Fandom and the DragonCon Art Show these many years. He has always had big ideas and passion about all things Fandom and Art. The DragonCon Art Show is the Show it is today because of his hard work and dedication. We will miss his ridiculous analogies, his loud laugh and outrageous ideas. He lived life head on and never apologized for it. We will miss him. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us at DCArtDirectors@comcast.net.

John and Anne Parise"

Patrick was such a great guy. I remember him fondly from my very first DragonCon days when I had no idea what I was doing and he cheerfully answered all my 'newbie' questions and made me feel right at home next to the famous artists.

Only talked to him a couple of times at DC, and he had been a nice guy. He had done a good job there, and he'll be missed.

This is a great loss to Fandom. I remember him fondly. He did a tremendous job with the D*C artshow and was ready with a kind word and encouragement to new artists.

As a particpant in the DragonCon Art Show for several years, I was always impressed with Patrick as a person, and the effort he put into making the D*C Art Show the absolute best. It's a sad loss.

I want to tell all of you how much it means to Patrick's family that so many people thought so much of him and took the time to express their condolences. While I can't speak for Felicia or Derrick, I can speak for myself by expressing a deep gratitude. patrick and I were brothers by the same Father. We did not grow up together, but I enjoyed the times he and I were able to talk "tech". He dedicated so much of himself towards his doctorate and was finally able to achieve his goal by going to JPL. I have always been proud of his accomplishments. We shared a love for the space sciences. He pursued it as a career. I chose just to watch and enjoy. His efforts towards making your events what they were have remained unknown to me until today. I must admit that I am a little surprised, but not totally. It seems like something he would enjoy.

Again, let me thank all of you for the expressions you have made. At this time arrangements for a memorial service have not been finalized. Those of you who know Felicia I'm certain will be advised.

Many thanks,

John Roberts
