I've had no artistic training whatsoever unless you count high school art, which I don't. My daughter was sweet enough to give me Poser5 for my b-day in December 2003 and I've been hooked ever since; I finally got a PC that could handle the program in February of 2005 which has made it a lot more fun since I don't have to wait 1/2 hour for each item I put in the darned render. I've found that I seem to lean toward my own brand of fantasy, sometimes dark, sometimes not and I really enjoy doing portraits and playing with filters...however my muse is fickle so I usually just go where she takes me which means you (and I) never know what I'll think of next.
