file_447732.jpgEach month the Renderosity community votes on The Renderosity Artist Of The Month [AOM] ... February's AOM is Volki!

We congratulate Volki for an outstanding collection of works in the 3ds Max Gallery!

Who is 'Volki'?

My name is Volkan Kacar. I was born in 1982 in Turkey. I am an Autodesk 3ds Max instructor at a 3D Akademi in Istanbul.

How long have you been working with computer graphics?

I have been working with computer graphics for 9 years. I started as a hobbyist, but it soon became my profession.

Do you have any traditional art experience?

No, I started art with computer graphics.

What are you currently working on?

I have a few personal projects going on right now, but two of them are highly detailed and I will not be able to finish them soon. I hope I will share more projects with you in the future.

What software/equipment do you use and why?

The software I use are 3ds max, Vray, Mentalray, Photoshop and Digital Fusion. I believe if you want to be a professional and also be creative, you have to be patient and you must never stop pushing the limits of the program you are using. My first program was 3ds Max, and that’s why I never gave up using 3ds Max, my first. It never caused me major problems; we get along well with each other :)

And of course Photoshop - you can find plenty resources to learn the program and you can do anything you think possible with it. Digital Fusion became one of my favorites over the years. It’s highly complicated, but easy to use. It is a great way of compositing my renders and great for a final touch. For rendering, I use both Vray and Mentalray. They are both solid and good softwares.

What is it that you like best about 3ds Max?

The modeling tools are very efficient and the quality to visualize is great. 3ds Max improves itself continuously, and you can find plenty of plug-ins for it, too.

What do you think your best piece of work is and why?

The Metro is one of my favorites, and it is very special to me because it was the first time I used Mentalray in my work. I don’t force my work to be very realistic; for me, the important thing is it must feel alive.

Who, or what, inspires you, and how do you get your ideas?

Observation and music, I can’t work without listening to music, and I follow the cg artists’ work on the online communities, too. If I see a work I like, I look for the programs they used, and the pipelines they used creating it.

How has this online community (Renderosity) enhanced your work, relationships, and learning?

Rendorosity is very important to me and it is a very qualified site. The comments and critique I get here helps me to improve my work, because the members are really good artists and they help me to see the other perspectives, too.

Do you have any parting comments or advice for other artists?

To learn a program, I highly recommend attending a class or taking special lessons. But, choose the person or company wisely; wrong education can harm rather than help. You must practice, practice and practice all the time you have. Have a good portfolio and observe the lights and objects around you.

We invite you to have a further look at Volki's Renderosity Gallery!

Artist of the Month is highlighting a talented Renderosity artist that has been nominated by mods and admins, and voted by the community. Recognition is given to this member for their collection of works for that year.

Since we only select one AOM per month, it is not about their works for that particular month. Instead, it is about highlighting a talented artist's works for that year, and they are recognized during that month.
