Congratulations to 2009 Collaborative Vendor of the Year - outoftouch! | outoftouch, CVOY

Vendor with the highest sales whose store is comprised of at least 50% collaborative items. We have introduced a new award this year for the vendor that works well with other vendors in the MarketPlace to produce 3D content that is in high demand. A regular in the annual awards, outoftouch, is the first winner of this title.

Congratulations to outoftouch for being the 2009 Collaborative Vendor of the Year!

How did you get started with 3D texturing?
It all began when I first tried out how to create new clothing textures and object recolors for the game "The Sims", the first version. I was fascinated by the creativity you can put into this and tried several other things until I found Poser.

What is the very first thing you do before sitting down to work on a model or texture for the first time?
As a major first thing I think about what kind of style I would like to go. A more casual fashion way, a fantasy touch or maybe the gothic / leather type. Before starting the work the very first thing is actually checking the UV templates of an outfit and see what part of the UV template is what part on the model.

Who is your favorite artist - digital or otherwise?
That is quite hard to say because most of the time I like the thing itself and don't care about who created it. There are no names that popped into my mind straight away.

How much time goes into creating one of your products?
This depends on the kind of product. If it is a texture set for an outfit it usually takes 10-14 hours. But this also depends on the complexity of the outfit. Doing hair is quite more time intensive, because of all the setup and morphing work. Doing the transmaps needs much time as well. So maybe around 20-30 hours and that is without the modelling part ;-)

A whole outfit is the most time intensive process. Apart from modelling, there is so much work with mapping, rigging, morphing. This can take about 25 hours + textures.

You work a lot with other vendors here at Renderosity. Can you give us some insight on how the collaboration process normally works?
I really like this type of work, although sometimes my name turns into reality and I'm really out of touch LOL People who work with me know it ;-) It's just because I'm always very deep into the projects and simply forget to answer immediately. So there is the very first step: A site mail or an e-mail with ideas.
The idea finding is always very funny as Bice & I nearly always like every idea and then can't decide which one to start next. If she wasn't such an amazing managing person, it would end up in a total chaos. If we decided for ideas and created a time plan, she starts modelling the project. In the meantime I still work on previous projects and finish them. So the whole process is some kind of time-shifted to not have a "stagnation" in between.
When she finished modelling we work on the UV mapping, Cr2 rigging and morphing together. When that is finished I start working on the textures. This is always one of the last steps to prevent problems if there may appear changes in materials or even UV templates. After that we test everything and I start setting up the renders, which most of the time render in a batch when I'm not at the desk. The renders will then be composed in Photoshop and the upload process begins.

Do you see any particular trends in the 3D model marketplace overall? Is there a particular style or design that you see becoming hot in 2010?
In the last 2 years I saw a particular trend going into the gothic / punk way. I really like that style a lot since there are so many creative possibilities.
Beneath that I'm seeing a SteamPunk trend which I really like as well! This can be great in a combination with the gothic / punk, so I think and hope the this will become big in 2010.

What type of music do you like to listen to while you work?
First of all, I can't work without music and: it must be loud! I'm a big fan of electronic music, Dance, Pop, House, RnB, 90s.

Do you have any final words?
Of course. What else can I say than a big THANK YOU to everyone! To all the admins here at Renderosity, to all our customers! Thanks for making this prize possible :) Also of course big thanks to all my partners for working with me. My one and only Bice, ilona, Adiene, Freja, xv3D and all others!
THANK YOU!
